Welcome to the In-Between!

Today, Thurs. 10/31, we arrive at the crossroads - at a point in our annual solar cycle that has long been designated as the point where the veils between the worlds are at their thinnest, and we honor that threshold and connection between spirits still embodied on the earth plane and those that are in other realms. Halloween, All Hallow's Eve, All Souls Day, Day of the Dead, Samhain - this time is reference in many cultures and known by many names.

In Danielle Dulsky's book, Seasons of Moon and Flame, she calls this the "Season of the Thirteenth Moon - Becoming." 

"There is a holy void that spans the space between autumn's end and winter's birth.  This, the thirteenth moon, is a time of nondoing, of rest, of tending to those deeper states of being that remind us of this one wild truth:  We are constantly being cocreated, molded, and shaped by cultural, societal, and ancestral hands; by our own memories as we choose to harness them and reexperience time; by our longing; and by our art."

"This is the time of sinking back to source, of dropping down into mud.  Though there are years when our calendar year contains thirteen moon cycles, most years do not have an entire thirteenth moon cycle.  In the Celtic tradition, the thirteenth moon is a brief season that surrounds Samhain, and we are called to wield our intuition and feel this cosmic void when it is upon us rather than rely on a linear calendar.  This moon wants us still and quiet.  This moon wants us attuned to the ancient pulse, to our most untamed state."

"Under the thirteenth moon....Feel into those moments when there is a blessed uncertainty, when some errant thought or external quandary sends you rushing to find resolution, and envision all those wild parts of your psyche coming together and simply being with one another among those firelit immortal trees.  Confusion is participation in the grand conversation.  Here, we rest, till life and death do us part."

On Sunday, October 10th, Saturn stations direct as we resume forward motion, the pressures of the past few months begin to lift.

This is our third out of four planets to station direct in two weeks.  On October 6th, Pluto stationed direct with the new moon, and on the 17th and 18th, Jupiter and Mercury will station direct, respectively.  

Because of all of these planets returning to direct motion right now, these two weeks are a big shift forward for us, and Saturn's return to forward motion is coming as sweet relief after a long retrograde summer.

Saturn stationed retrograde back on May 23rd, in between Pluto stationing retrograde in late April, and Jupiter following suit in mid-June.  

Retrogrades are reviews, and no matter which planet is backtracking, they always have us slowing down, turning inward, and learning lessons. 

However Saturn retrograde can feel more challenging to us, as Saturn is the planet of limits and boundaries. 

Saturn's lessons involve responsibility and maturity.  It asks us to step into our own authority.  If we aren't in our authority when Saturn is in play, we might find authority from the outside coming down on us, and it is likely to feel quite oppressive. 

When Saturn is in retrograde, we can feel slowed down or completely stopped, and our duties and responsibilities can feel much too heavy, like constant pressure that might break us.  It can feel like there is no end in sight.  This in turn can have us feeling depressed, weighted by sadness, sorrow, and grief.  

The good news is, Saturn is the Roman god of the harvest.  When we do the work, we reap the rewards.   Saturn, no matter how challenging, is always asking us to build a better foundation and structure from which to cultivate the fruits of our love and labor.  

On Sunday, October 10th, Saturn stations direct and slowly resumes forward motion.  As it does this, the pressure eases up and we get to move forward again too.

For the entire year of 2021, Saturn in Aquarius is in square to Uranus in Taurus, as they intersect paths three separate times on February 17th, June 14th, finally coming to resolution on December 24th.  

Saturn being at an energetic impasse with Uranus, planet of the future and sudden change through upheaval, makes for an even more difficult retrograde period, as we are caught in between being pulled back into reviews and lessons and the urge to push forward into the new, break free, and innovate.  

However, the Saturn retrograde itself makes several supportive aspects, so this helps ease us through it. 

The key here is to focus on doing the work of building the foundations and structures that Saturn wants.  2021 is a transition year, and with its main energetic signature being the Saturn-Uranus square, we are working out how to move forward, creating the new routines, new foundations, new structures, new traditions, and new rules that will hold us when we actually step into the new that Uranus is bringing.  

Although it is likely that during Saturn's retrograde since May 23rd we have felt restricted and limited in different ways, and that has brought up frustration, grief, and even depression, we were being asked to do the work and build a container to hold the new.  

This retrograde has also been blessed by goddess of love and money, relationships and resources, Venus.  When Saturn and Venus come together we get spiritual and/or karmic love, stability and maturity in love, and both love and business/financial endeavors or investments that are long-lasting.  (Venus and Saturn can also point to a long-term relationship in love or business with someone much older or younger than you.)

In light of yesterday's giant Facebook/IG/WhatsApp tech malfunction, I thought it might be a good time for a Mercury RX check in.
​

1. This is our third and final Mercury Rx of 2021, and all of this year's are in air signs ~ this one is in Libra.
2. It's strong. We have sun and Mars in Libra with Mercury, and in conjunction for this week's new moon no less.
3. Uranus Rx in Taurus (Venus' other sign) is at a 150 degree angle to all of this (not harmonious), specifically Wednesday's new moon with Mars, adding to the sudden upheaval type situations.

Here is a reminder list of what to expect when Mercury RX is in play.

This week, Mercury is approaching the heart of this retrograde. It will arrive for its meeting with the sun and big "aha" moment on the 9th. Until then, things are building. After that, we will be on the "downhill side" of the retrograde, so to speak. (It won't be as active/intense.)

With January's "grand conjunction" between Jupiter and Saturn at 0 degrees Aquarius, we kicked off a new 20 year cycle but also a new 200 year cycle of these conjunctions happening every 20 years in air signs - for the past 200 year cycle, they have been focused on the earth signs.

Also, this year's main energetic signature is the 3 squares between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus - Saturn wants to bring structure and rules to innovative Aquarius, and Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, is shaking things up in earthy and material- and security-oriented Taurus.

2021 is a year of working out the way forward into the new - it's a year of transition (from earth to air, more specifically).

(Plus we are preparing for Pluto to start making its transition out of Capricorn, where it has been since 2008, into Aquarius, in just a couple of years - a huge earth to air transition.)

Mercury in retrograde slows down our everyday communications and travels to help us review our thinking and communications.

The key here, especially through this weekend, is SLOW DOWN.

When we run into tech issues and scheduling conflicts and communication mishaps this week, it is our cue to slow down. It may feel like a hindrance, but Mercury is actually helping us. Everything that comes up now is an opportunity to work out hidden kinks in things and get it ironed out for later.

With Mercury RX and this new moon conjunct Mars all in Libra, look to the house Libra rules in your natal chart to get more info on how this is affecting you personally ~ what area of life does Libra rule in your chart? That's where this is coming through in your life. If it is making aspects, especially squares or oppositions, to significant placements in your chart, then it's personal for you, and likely coming through to you via people and situations in your life, through the area of life represented by Libra's house placement.

There's a lot of "noise" going on with all of this planetary action in Libra, and with Pluto and Saturn both stationing direct this week, but ultimately, Mercury is the mind, thinking, and communications, and Libra wants harmony, balance, peace, and cooperation.

Libra is about partnership ~ having harmonious relationships with others.
Mercury retrograde wants to refine. (It is also getting help from Pluto and Jupiter to helps us transform and expand our thinking by early November.)

This isn't time to push, it is time to listen, allow, and flow.

Remember, we are still in the dark moon today, the new moon is Wednesday, Pluto is in the midst of stationing direct, Saturn is preparing to station direct Sunday, and we don't get to Mercury's big "aha moment" until Saturday.

We don't have all of the information yet, and we are in the deepest point of the lunar cycle.
