Happy Earth Day and New Moon in Taurus!
The sun in Taurus, as of Sunday, April 19th, has us looking for stability. However, the pressure coming from Wednesday evening's new moon, sitting with Uranus, a planet known for bringing change via disruption and sudden upheaval, and in square to the teacher and taskmaster, Saturn, in Aquarius, is making that hard to come by right now. The sun freshly into Taurus turns our conscious focus to all things associated with this Venus-ruled sign of earth, including the earth itself, the environment, gardens, our food supply, land and property and all of the possessions and material things that give us a sense of security and stability, things that have to do with the senses and enjoying life from a sensory perspective such as aesthetic beauty, food and drink, dancing, singing, laughing, and love-making. Taurus loves the creature comforts and life's little luxuries.
This Taurus new moon has us yearning for that comfort and stability and enjoyment of life that Taurus energy is all about. Yet, challenged by change and restriction now, we find ourselves grappling with uncertainty, anxiety, fear, isolation, separation, and even hopelessness, loss, and depression.
The presence of Uranus and Saturn is really squeezing this new moon, and at a time when we could all truly use some free-flowing Taurus medicine. And the thing is, this isn't going away anytime soon. This weekend, Pluto kicks off the retrograde season by reversing direction where its been sitting now for a while at 24 degrees Capricorn. Saturn will follow suit on May 10th, then Venus on May 13th, followed by Jupiter on May 14th. Retrogrades are a time of review and reevaluation. The planet backtracks over the degrees recently covered for a period of time, then turns direct and goes back over that territory a third and final time. This means we are going to be reviewing everything since January 1st, from this coming weekend through the end of the year. This new moon, however, comes with a gift. Every new moon is a fresh start, a rebirth, a new beginning. The Aries new moon on March 24th with Saturn just having moved into Aquarius two days prior at equinox was quite the opening statement for the astrological new year. If Aries is good at anything, its getting straight to the point. And on the eve of this new moon, things look very different than they did just one lunation ago, But we have adapted and adjusted to the best of our ability. And now we move forward from where we are at with what we know at this time to the best of our ability. We have met Uranus and Saturn now, we have experienced their handiwork, acknowledged their power. At this new moon, we have the opportunity to meet these energetic forces in a different way. Uranus in Taurus brings change through sudden upheaval. Have we seen the recent upheaval result in changes that are positive, especially for nature, the earth, and the environment? Saturn does rule disease, depression, fear, isolation, restriction, and separation, but Saturn also rules caution, practicality, stability, and structures and boundaries that protect and provide safety. Saturn is the Roman god of the harvest - its lessons are about responsibility, discipline, and doing the work and protecting it to ensure a happy harvest. Can we see the lessons here coming through from Saturn, "the teacher"? Uranus wants innovation, and sits with the new moon in Taurus. How can we create new and innovative ways to nourish ourselves, the collective, and the planet itself with taurean medicine, without falling back on the old standby's and old habits and old routines? Saturn is challenging this new moon from Aquarius - that means we have to do this while staying within certain limits and working within a given framework. This new moon is a creative challenge for us to look around at our lives and take a good look at what we truly value, and then evaluate new avenues of honoring these values and meeting our related needs in this new landscape of daily life. If we do this now, it is going to give back exponentially in the coming months and years. The retrogrades this summer will be helping us with this over the summer as well. And we most likely will be repeating this process as things continue to shift and change, so now is the time to get good at it. Now is the time to anchor into our personal truths and values, and to strengthen our beliefs and our minds, and our intentions, and our wills, so that we are absolutely unshakable. Now is the time to befriend the unknown, and get comfortable in the void, because the one thing change will never be is familiar, and the sweet spot for consciously creating our lives is right in that void, in the chaos of creation. When we work like this, consciously, with the energies at play, we might find ourselves suddenly surfing the giant incoming waves of change - supported by those energies we once found so ominous and threatening. ~Kasey
