As of December 21st, and until Jan. 20th, Capricorn season is ON, and it's going to be a memorable one. Did you know that Capricorn is the only zodiac sign that is a mythical creature - the "sea goat" (the head of a goat with the tail of a fish) - and that the highest expression of this Saturn-ruled earth sign is the UNICORN? Saturn was the Roman god of the harvest, and this time of year was a huge festival called Saturnalia, when even slaves and masters traded roles.
Going back further, Capricorn and the magical sea goat for ancient Sumerians were associated with god of wisdom, Enki. The sign wasn't just about earth, or Saturn-ruled earth as we think of it today, associated with the climbing-ever-higher, sure-footed mountain goat, hard mountainous terrain, and plants that grow in challenging conditions or create borders and boundaries. It was an earth sign associated with "sweet water," as the Sumerian civilization was one of the first ones to establish irrigation for their crops and cities on a grand scale and flourish in Mesopotamia because of it. And this in turn of course influences Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, being a harvest god to the Romans. In modern society, we may see Saturn and Capricorn more about taking care of the practical and mundane tasks that must get done, as well as societal compliance stuff like paying taxes. But if we trace it back to earlier times, we get a deeper understanding of this signs energy, and the magic it holds. This is about wisdom, and it's about the magic of adding the water element to earth - what happens when we use the earth and rock to create a solid container - a foundational structure with proper boundaries - to hold what we value most - our "food and water of life." This Capricorn season promises to be a memorable one because this is our last Capricorn season for over 200 years with Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto has been there since 2008, doing its work of stripping and exposing in order to tear down the old and create the new, specifically in the Capricorn areas of the collective - infrastructure and financial systems and government. In your life, this has happened on a personal level since 2008 in whatever house, or area of life, Capricorn rules in your natal chart. For example if it rules your 7th house, it's been about relationships, or if it rules your 10th house, it's been about public image and career. This month, we have our final of all of the following for over 200 years: Capricorn season, Mercury retrograde in Capricorn (mentally processing especially the last 10 years of Pluto in Capricorn as Mercury, the mind, rewinds over the degrees Pluto covered those years), Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, and finally, Mercury conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. Because on March 23rd, Pluto will shift out of Capricorn and into Aquarius, marking a huge energetic shift for the collective and in our personal lives. To make this shift feel even bigger, we also have Saturn into Pisces on May 18th (it's been in Aquarius for 2 1/2 years, since March 2020, right about the time the pandemic lockdown first began, and will now be in Pisces for 2 1/2 years), and right after Pluto moves on the 23rd, we have Mars, the planet of action and initiation, moving out of Gemini where it has been since August 20th, for 4x longer than its normal transit length of a sign because of its retrograde there, and into Cancer. By the end of January, Mercury, Mars, and Uranus will all have stationed direct, giving us ALL planets in forward motion, and then we will have February and March for integration before these big shifts land in our lives. Now is the time to rest and review and open to the wisdom this Capricorn season is bringing!
