The Art of Consciously Creating, Part IV:  Staying in the Current

What magic allows the acorn to become the mighty oak?

This is the fourth and final article in my series, The Art of Consciously Creating.
...................................................................................................................................................................................
This series of articles can only provide an overview of the process - there are many places where we, as individuals, can and will get hung up as we practice this path.  We all have obstacles that are specific to ourselves.  Each one of our paths is unique.  If I was taking you through this path as a client, we might have to focus a lot of time in one area, and even bounce around this process or do it several times, each time piercing down to a deeper level of truth.  Many times the clearing of old beliefs is a process that takes considerable time, so you may move forward with this over months or even years as you dig down through the layers of blocks you have accumulated. That's OK. That is the process. You might find that you are so entrenched in the limiting beliefs and framework of obligations and other people's experiences and opinions that have been handed down to you that just doing step one, where you figure out what really lights you on fire, is impossible, and before you can really get to that, you have to do a lot of the clearing work.  That's OK too. Take a sense of the whole process and try to apply it objectively.  You may bounce around the steps for a while, each time honing and getting down deeper through the layers to the authentic you.  (This is a perfect way to use the monthly lunar cycles described in Part III to help your process.)

Staying in the Current

Once you've aligned with your path, consciously creating your life is a lot like trying to row a raft down a river.  As the current carries you towards your destination, you must continually observe and make small adjustments to stay in the current.  If you stay aligned with the current, the current will do most of the work.  But you must stay engaged with the process, making adjustments, avoiding obstacles, and remaining willing to go where the current takes you without grabbing onto a tree and resisting out of fear of what lies ahead.

Working through the process outlined in these articles, you have found that which sets your soul on fire, you have become aware of the beliefs that limit you, and you have taken the power back to use your mind in service to your goals by creating new belief and thought patterns.

In these ways you have created a supportive environment that will nurture your intentions into reality.  Now you must get to the work of making your ideal real, by taking action steps toward your desires, but in a way that works with the current (the energy flow) and not against it.

You must stay in the current of your desires by staying present and trusting and following your inner guidance.  This allows you to make adjustments as you go to stay in the flow of the current, instead of battling against it.

In this final article, I want to share with you the five requirements to manifesting an intention.  Understanding these will help you as you create.  "Create" means to bring into being something that was not there before.  By default it requires you to step into the unknown and think and act differently.  You cannot stay in the familiar.  This means you will probably encounter some fear.  It is helpful to acknowledge this up front.  Feeling fear in this case does not mean anything is "wrong".  Fear in this case means that you are actually on the right path, if you are intending to create, because it means you have stepped out of the familiar.
There are five requirements to manifesting an intention:
  1. You must have the passion to pay the price.  This means you are passionate enough about your goal that you have the motivation and courage to withstand the uncomfortable parts of bringing your intention to life.  You are not easily deterred.  (See Part 1, where we discuss getting down to what really sets your heart on fire.)
  2. You must maintain right perspective.  "Right perspective" is about maintaining an inner environment that is supportive to achieving your goals.  It's about your beliefs and thoughts.  It is up to you to maintain an inner landscape that allows you to move steadily toward your desires.  Whether you find yourself having limiting beliefs like "I'm not capable", "It cannot be done", "If it was a really good idea someone else would've done it", "I'm not smart enough", or anything else, that belief, that weed, must go and a a new supportive belief nurtured in its place. (See Part 2, where we discuss uncovering and shifting limiting beliefs.)
  3. You must maintain the willingness to enter the unknown.  The act of creating is the act of bringing into being something you have not experienced previously.  This means stepping into the unknown.  This means entering into chaos.  Einstein reminded us that, "you cannot keep doing the same thing every day and expect different results". In order to bring forth a new reality, you have to start thinking differently, behaving differently and living differently, and this means having to be OK with not knowing and allowing change, and maybe working through some anxiety as it comes up.
  4. You must be willing to act.  You are moving through the unknown in order to create a new reality, and there are bound to be some obstacles or problems to solve.  Adjustments to the plan will be made.  Or maybe the entire plan will get rewritten.  You must be willing to connect to your inner guidance and trust that as you take each step forward, another little bit of the path will  appear.  Sometimes, the greatest cure for anxiety is action.  You cannot allow yourself to be mired in fear.  Stay present, stay flexible, and stay willing.  The way forward will appear.
  5. You must have the ability to hold focus.  Do not allow yourself to be distracted from your intention or to be pulled off course by "life".  To manifest takes time, and that requires focused attention over a duration.  Where the attention goes, the energy flows.  Manage your time and manage your attention. Prioritize.  Do not allow your energy to leak out to places where it does not serve you.  You are creating your heart's desire, bringing your dreams into reality, and it requires your full presence.  Find a way each day to remind yourself of your intent, be it with meditation, using vision boards, having a daily, weekly and monthly to-do list based on your goals and timelines, or a combination of these things. You might even find that engaging a life coach or business coach to help you stay focused on your goals is helpful. (See Part 3, where we discuss the toolbox for manifesting.)

And now, in closing, I want to recap the process that these four articles have defined. These are the basics for successfully manifesting an intention, and they define the process of taking that little seed of an idea and making space for it and nurturing it, not allowing the weeds of limiting beliefs and fear to drain its life force or steal its sunshine.
The four steps of successfully manifesting intentions:
  • Step 1 is to choose a pure intention/goal.  Your intention has to be something that sets your soul on fire - it cannot be based on anything but your truest desires and expression.  If your goal is clouded by fears, others' opinions, "shoulds" or limiting beliefs, it will not be backed by the passion and motivation it needs to be brought into reality.  It may take some time and real effort to discover what this is for you.  Having a clear intention that is fueled by pure passion is what makes this all work.  It's really important!
  • Step 2 is to link your intention, your heart's desire, to feelings that you want to experience in your life.  This connects you to the essence of your intention and allows you to harness the law of attraction in bringing your intention into existence.
  • Step 3 is to bring awareness to any fears, negative thought patterns or limiting beliefs.  This isn't always easy, because many of these are held in our subconscious and we don't have full awareness of them. Eliminating limiting beliefs is an ongoing process for most of us.  But remember that the Law of Attraction is ALWAYS working, just like gravity is, so you want to ensure there is absolutely nothing blocking your alignment with the vibration of your intention and desires.  Replace every limiting belief you become aware of with a supporting belief.  In this way you are creating a supportive inner environment that will nurture your intention.  It takes 21 days to form a new habit and taking action from the perspective of your new belief helps to solidify it in your subconscious.
  • Step 4 is to manifest.  Stay in the current.  Stay present and stay centered.  Trust.  Be OK with not knowing.  Take one step at a time.  Be willing to do what needs to be done.  Use action as an antidote to fear. Work through anxiety as it comes up.  Keep adjusting and stay flexible.  Rewrite the plan as necessary.  Keep shifting beliefs and tending your inner environment.  Stay focused on your goal and give it attention and energy every day.

This is the Art of Consciously Creating your Life.  It requires skill and creativity, and we get better with practice.  We are always in a constant state of consciously creating our lives, and if we give this process attention, just like anything else, we will become more and more adept at it.

So here is to the practice of consciously creating.  May you manifest what your heart most deeply desires.
