A Tarot Reading for Success for the Week of July 12th, 2021 (with Astrology)

Welcome to the week of July 12th, 2021!  

This week we are waxing off of last Friday's blissful new Cancer moon, and waxing towards the tension of the first quarter moon choice point and sun opposing Pluto this weekend (both exact on Saturday, but on Friday through Sunday).

To bring some additional light to this week (and to celebrate Mercury's move on Sunday, July 11th, from Gemini into Cancer, which has us fully out of the shadow of the recent retrograde as well as the square with Neptune which added confusion), here is a "success spread" for this week.  (The deck is Shadowscapes, art by Stephanie Law.)

The Spread:

In this spread, Card 1 represents the major concern or obstacle, Card 2 shows the current challenges or complications, Card 3 is hidden factors affecting the situation, Card 4 represents what can help growth, and Card 5 is what needs to be done or avoided to ensure success.

The Cards:

For this week, the cards came up as follows:  Card 1 - The Emperor; Card 2 - The Star, reversed; Card 3 - 6 of Cups;  Card 4 - 10 of Cups, reversed, and Card 5 - The Hanged Man, reversed.

The Meaning:

1.  The Emperor.

​The Emperor shows up first representing the major concern this week.  The Emperor represents authority, structure, systems, and rules and regulations.  This is a card of the establishment - of society and government, and of tradition.  Think Saturn/Capricorn.  

So what's Saturn up to right now?  Well, it is retrograde in Aquarius currently - that means a review, and a karmic one at that.  Saturn retrograde helps us to find our own authority, structure, rules, and boundaries, but to do that, it usually comes through as restriction or oppression from "out there."  Think about this:  if we are in our own authority, being responsible and disciplined, taking care of business in our realms, there is no room for outside authority to come down on us, because we have our house in order.  

The other thing to consider here is that the main energetic signature of 2021 is the three squares between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus over the course of the year - the first was February 17th, the second was June 14th, and the third (the resolution) will be December 24th.  These two are working something out over the course of this year and it has to do with creating new rules and traditions that are innovative and support how we feel secure and enjoy our lives daily through the five senses - how we enjoy the creature comforts and life's little luxuries - in direct correlation to the sweeping changes that have taken place recently (especially due to the pandemic). 

What came up in your life around February 17th and June 14th? (February 17th was the initiation to the issue, and June 14th was the review - now we are working toward resolution, so in the process of "the becoming" - stepping into our authority and putting the proper structures and systems in place to support the new where they are now needed.

In what ways or areas of life are you feeling restricted and also like you want to break free?  What feels outdated, outworn, or irrelevant that used to feel stable and supportive?

2.  The Star, reversed.

The Star, reversed, shows us what the current challenges are that are complicating things.  In short, this is a lack of faith, and a test of faith.  When the Star is upright, it is a beacon of hope, faith, and trust in the future, in the Universe, and in the divine order of all things.  What do we need to do now to reconnect with our faith and get the Star upright again?  What has us feeling defeated or overwhelmed now?  

The planet of hope, faith, and optimism, Jupiter, has recently stationed retrograde (on June 20th) and in the near future will be moving back into Aquarius, where Saturn is retrograde.  Jupiter retrograde helps us review our beliefs - that inner foundation that keeps the flames of our hearts burning bright.   It will be back in Aquarius (with Saturn) wrapping up some unfinished business from July 28th through December, and with Saturn retrograde there as well, this may have us feeling down (Saturn rules contraction and depression too).  But this is only a phase - September/October will see us moving forward on all fronts again, and even more shifts will be happening in December.

What do you need to do to reconnect with yourself and spirit and regain your trust and sense of faith?  Saturn retrograde can have us feeling like we are under nonstop pressure, as Saturn is a demanding taskmaster, but part of its lesson is around being our own authority and maintaining the boundaries that help us create and protect what we most value in life.  That means we make self-care a priority.

3.  6 of Cups.

What hidden information around this is the 6 of Cups bringing to light for us now?  Lighten up!  The 6 of Cups is the card of childlike innocence.  It is reminding us to look at the world through the eyes of a child and see with childlike wonder the magic that surrounds us always.  Shake off the cynicism and distrust that is binding you and return to innocence, freedom, and the simple joys of being alive.  Look at the world with fresh eyes and interpret it with a "beginner's mind" and see how different everything looks.  Stay curious and move through your days with an open heart and mind.  There is magic here.

4.  10 of Cups, reversed.

Where does the growth lie?  Come home to yourself, reconnect with your heart's desires and your core values and beliefs.  Are you living someone else's life, with your decisions being made from "shoulds" or other's opinions or "the way it has always been done?"  Come back to your heart and start there.  Check in with what makes it happy and what sets it alight with passion.  Everything begins with this.  Come back to the solid seat upon the throne of your heart as sovereign ruler of your realm and you will begin to feel connected and in alignment and harmony with yourself and all that is again.

5.  The Hanged Man, reversed.

So what to do to be successful?  The Hanged Man reversed says "there is power in the pause."  (And Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto all currently retrograde concur.)

We are in a time of review, not a time of pushing forward.  You might be trying to ignore this, or you might be finding yourself forced into a holding pattern by circumstances beyond your control.  This situation is asking for surrender - that is the only way to free up the block.  Steer into the skid to regain control and forward momentum.  Pay attention to which way the current is flowing and work with it - remember that everything is in divine order.  

Considering that we are just coming out of Mercury's recent retrograde in its own sign of Gemini  (Mercury just cleared the shadow of its May-June retrograde last week - it entered the pre-shadow on May 15th, and also had the final of three squares to Neptune in Pisces that began around May 22nd), it is quite probable that this card here is speaking to the pause, review, and fresh perspective we have gained during this past powerful Mercury retrograde, that was also intrinsically tied into the June 10th new moon eclipse in Gemini.  We are finally now gaining clarity and ready to move forward again.

The Summary:

Card 5 (new perspective gained from pause/review) ties back to the original concern/issue right now, represented by Card 1, The Emperor, which we said has to do with stepping into our own authority, creating boundaries and structure through responsibility and discipline, ruling our realms. 

The more we step into the role of Saturn in our lives, the less we will feel it being imposed on us from "out there," and pausing to listen to Saturn, Mercury, and the other planets when in retrograde so we can take in important new information that gives us new perspectives is key to our success.

How are you stepping into your authenticity and own authority now with the fresh perspective you now have, ruling your realm solidly seated upon the throne of your heart?

Can you see how your faith is being tested now, and see beyond the current situation or feelings of restriction?  Can you see the world with fresh eyes, with childlike innocence and a sense of wonder, and see the divine order in all things, including yourself and your life? 

In doing this, can you reconnect with yourself, with your passion and purpose, with your inspiration, with your source, and with your higher guidance?

Can you reclaim your the throne of your heart and your rightful power and authority as ruler of your realm and see the bigger patterns at play?  Can you read the energetic currents and surrender to them from a place of wisdom and reverence, knowing that this is how to harness their power to go in your desired direction when the time is right?
