Astrology for the Week of July 5th, 2021: Working Through the Rough Spots, Preparing for New Beginnings
The moon is waning towards the new moon in Cancer this week, but there is way more to this week's energy than just dark moon release and a fresh start in the realm of home, past, emotions, ancestors, and our sense of belonging.
For the first part of this week, Venus is following Mars' path from last week in Leo bumping through the Saturn-Uranus square, and we will still be feeling the fogginess of Mercury squaring Neptune. From midweek through Friday, its all about getting still and turning inward for the dark moon. The new moon is exact on Friday, but Mercury won't be joining the sun in Cancer until Sunday, and we are moving right into the beginning of a fresh new two year cycle on the 13th when Mars and Venus come together. This week the focus is on working out whatever is coming up now and also releasing. Next week we move forward again.
The new moon in Cancer is happening on Friday, and the Cancer vibes intensify Sunday as Mercury (finally) leaves Gemini, its own sign and the sign of its most recent retrograde, to join the sun in Cancer.
Mercury is lagging behind the sun now because of its recent retrograde from May 29th through June 22nd, but Mars and Venus have moved ahead and are already in Leo.
While Gemini was the sign of both Mercury retrograde and the new moon eclipse in June, as the personal planets and the sun move through the end degrees of Cancer, they all one by one oppose Pluto retrograde (lessons in power), and as they then move through Leo, they all will one by one oppose Saturn retrograde and then square Uranus in Taurus, giving us additional information around whatever we are working out this year through the three Saturn-Uranus squares of 2021.
Last week, Mars was the one opposing Saturn retrograde and then squaring up to Uranus from Leo.
This week it's Venus, opposing Saturn on Tuesday the 6th, and then squaring Uranus on Thursday the 8th.
Also on the 6th, the third and final square from Mercury in Gemini to Neptune in Pisces is exact. This has been on since mid-May, and is linked to Mercury's retrograde in Gemini. The third out of a series of three squares is always the resolution of the issue. That means that by the end of the week once this has passed (and definitely once Mercury moves into Cancer on Sunday) we are really and truly done with this past retrograde and we will finally have all of the information. The way this retrograde of Mercury, the ruler of the mind, messages, and communication, unfolded, we have been getting layers of understanding ever since June 10th. This week, it all falls into place and we move forward.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Mars and Venus in Leo, now that they have both run the gauntlet through the Saturn-Uranus square, are setting up to come together next week on July 13th. This will mark the beginning of a new two year cycle between the planetary lovers, the divine feminine and divine masculine, from Leo, sign of creative self-expression, play, and romance. Leo is the sign ruled by the sun, the source, the light of consciousness, and symbolized by the lion, king of the jungle - this is a bold new beginning.
This is one of the main reasons that I am recommending that everyone wait until the 13th next week to set new moon intentions - to take advantage of the fresh energy as this brand new two year cycle begins.
What are you consciously creating now?
On Sunday, June 20th, at 9:32 p.m., MST, the sun enters Cancer, meaning we have arrived at solstice, one of the four gateways of the wheel of the year.
Here in the northern hemisphere, that means summer solstice.
Summer solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year, and the day that the summer season begins.
When the sun moves into Aries at equinox, the astrological year begins as spring begins. Spring is marked by the sun moving through Aries, Taurus, and Gemini. Then when the sun reaches Cancer, summer begins. The height of summer is when the sun is in its own sign of Leo, and summer begins waning with the sun in Virgo. Then fall begins with sun in Libra, and winter begins when the sun arrives in Capricorn, Cancer's opposite sign.
The sun in astrology is our source and the "light of consciousness." In our personal natal charts, it represents our inner light and what we are becoming in this life. It also represents the father/father's lineage. The sun rules Leo, the second of three fire signs - the sign of creative self-expression.
Summer solstice is exact when the sun reaches zero degrees Cancer, the water sign that begins the summer season and is the sign of where we come from, nurturing, home, belonging, and the mother.
At summer solstice, the seeds have been sown, the crops have been planted. Now, as we reach the longest and hottest days of the year, we wait for the fruit to ripen and enjoy the bounty and ease the earth now provides in the summer.
At solstice, we celebrate the magic by which the acorn becomes the mighty oak, and the magic by which we also come to be what we are and express ourselves in this world and this life.
At solstice, we celebrate the magic of growth and becoming and our creative fire.
Now we give thanks and release what we have outgrown, and celebrate what we are now cultivating.
This is the Art of Consciously Creating Life.
Join us on the journey:
Many of us are familiar with the idea that we can literally create our reality with our thoughts. But what determines the quality and direction of our thoughts? The underlying factor is our beliefs. Unfortunately, we tend to harbor beliefs deep within our subconscious mind that don’t come to light without some effort. Therefore we are caught in a reality we are not consciously creating, and because we are not consciously creating it, it is most likely a reality different from that which we desire to create in our lives.
One method used to uncover these deeply held beliefs and understand how they were originally accepted is through hypnosis - "hypnotherapy." The premise is that when in an altered brain wave state, we can better access the subconscious as it puts the "thinking mind," in the back seat, so to speak. Getting the conscious, thinking (monkey) mind out of the driver's seat can help us access what's just below the surface of consciousness and deeper.
Many beliefs we carry aren't conscious - they are behind the scenes running the programs of our lives, because they are ideas that were accepted very early in life. In these cases, we aren’t even consciously aware that we are holding them or when or how they were accepted in the first place because it was at such a young age. Between the ages of seven and eleven, the critical factor is developed in the mind. This is a sort of gatekeeper that manages what ideas are accepted into the subconscious as beliefs. Before this gets developed, ideas are very easily accepted in the child’s mind. Think about how we say that children “absorb things like a sponge”. Without the critical factor in place, our minds are just downloading information without analyzing it.
There are five ways an idea is accepted as a belief into the subconscious mind:
1. Repetition. An idea that is presented repeatedly has a better chance of being accepted as a belief.
2. A traumatic incident. We may accept an idea as a belief during a traumatic experience. One isolated situation can easily turn into an underlying belief of “I’m not loveable” or “I’m not worthy” or “I’m not good enough” when the mind generalizes it, as is its tendency to do. (Generalizing ideas is a protective mechanism of the mind – if we are hurt by something we tend to generalize and say stay away from that thing or situation across the board to protect ourselves instead of viewing as a specific isolated incident. Generalizing isn’t bad, and is a survival mechanism that most likely supported our evolution, but it’s not always in our best interest emotionally.)
3. Peer group. The peer group can be a powerful force when it comes to ideas becoming accepted as generalized beliefs. How many of us have terror when it comes to public speaking or maybe picked up the “I’m not smart enough” belief from an incident in front of the class in school?
4. Authority Figure. Growing up, almost everyone around us is an authority figure. Parents, relatives, teachers all fit in this category. Our interaction with them is not always positive, however, and we may end up picking up a belief from a situation that isn’t actually our truth. Even as adults, we may give others, such as our physicians, the power of being an authority figure and allowing beliefs that may not serve us best be formed by what they tell us. How many times have we heard of someone taking what a physician tells him/her as absolute truth without seeking a second opinion or challenging it at all and just resigning him or herself to whatever fate the doctor has predicted?
5. Altered state of consciousness. Hypnosis is actually an altered state of consciousness that is natural; relaxed yet focused; that relaxes the critical factor of the mind so new consciously chosen ideas can be more easily accepted as beliefs. In this way you can “download” the beliefs that support the life you want to create.
The beliefs are the root. Your thoughts grow out of the beliefs you hold most deeply whether you are conscious of them or not. Your thoughts in turn influence your emotions, and out of your emotions grow your behavior in the world. Your behavior is then your “interface” with your reality. In this way, your beliefs are the beginning of the chain of events that creates your reality in your world. They are like a filter through which you view the world around you. You will tend to register and acknowledge those events and situations around you that support your beliefs, and dismiss those that do not.
We hear a lot about positive affirmations, and they certainly have their place, but if they are going against a belief that is deeply held in the subconscious, the belief will always win. First we must root out the beliefs that are not serving the reality we want to experience and then we can choose the beliefs that support us and recreate our reality from the ground up.
In the Art of Consciously Creating Life, we use the lunar cycle as a framework for doing this work each month of getting in alignment with our most authentic selves and therefore most authentic and heartfelt desires, rooting out limiting and outdated beliefs that no longer serve, and replacing them with new beliefs that support us in realizing our visions and intentions.
What kind of world do you want to experience?

When the moon is waxing from new to full, this is the time to focus on building and action, taking the (direct) steps to nurture those intention seeds we've planted in the dark soil. (When it is waning, we take action towards our intentions in a more indirect way - by releasing what no longer aligns or supports.) Along the way, and especially at the first quarter and last quarter squares between the moon and sun, we make adjustments and course corrections.
With that in mind, here are four guidelines to work with as you hold your intentions at the forefront of your mind and take action to bring those visions into the mundane world with every lunar cycle.
1. Vibe High: Believe; dream; be the best version of yourself; it's all possible and your vision is unique and sacred to YOU, so don't let anyone or anything dim your light for one second. You are a magical creature, with a unique set of talents, gifts and skills, so what is right and possible for you may not apply to everyone else.
2. Ground It: Grounding keeps us centered and in the present moment - our place of power. It also keeps us connected - to our bodies, to source, to the earth, to inner guidance and other guidance. From a biological standpoint, it keeps us calm, which means it keeps us out of fight/flight/freeze - it keeps the blood flowing to our higher brain so we can find solutions and keep moving. Create a plan and take baby action steps every day towards manifesting your vision. Make adjustments as necessary. You're taking baby steps and therefore can always make corrections. You don't have to know ten steps down the road to start moving - you can take one step at a time. (This is what I call the "Indiana Jones Invisible Bridge" theory - in the movie they filmed at Petra, it looks like there is a great chasm with no way across, but when they step out, there is actually an invisible bridge - with each step they take, the bridge, the support, forms beneath them. We are powerful creators - sometimes it is about trust, faith, and the courage to take that step.)
3. Let Go & Trust: Let go of trying to control anything other than yourself. Not only is this an illusion, a false sense of security, it is a massive way we leak precious creative energy and give away our powe! Do your best without attachment to outcome. Trust it is all happening in divine right timing and know that you cannot see the entire picture. Trust that you are getting all of the information and always at the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, and that you have the capability and knowing to make the right decisions when it is time. Trust it is all unfolding in perfect order. (This keeps you out of self-doubt and out of playing out random possible scenarios and tipping out into the future - out of your power.)
4. Always Bring it Back to YOU: Your actions, reactions, non-action, thoughts, beliefs, hopes and dreams are no one's responsibility but your own. You aren't a victim you are a Creator. You are powerful. Whatever the situation or event, come back to yourself and see what you can do differently to create a more desirable outcome that is in alignment with your vision. Use all the information you get to course correct as needed to stay in alignment with your overall visions, intentions, and goals.
And remember this is an ongoing practice that we keep refining it with every lunar cycle! Yeah? Hell Yeah! Let's make something amazing happen!

Astrology for the Week of May 10th, 2021: New Moon in Taurus and Jupiter into Pisces: Promising New Beginnings (And Mercury enters its RX pre-shadow.)
It's a new moon in Taurus this week, but Gemini season is coming, and coming on strong. In fact, we are already feeling it with the shifts of both Venus and Mercury out of Taurus last week and into Gemini. Mercury rules Gemini, so its strong there, and it will be in retrograde there from May 29th to June 22nd, so will be in its own sign for an extended stay and a review. Gemini season officially kicks off when the sun enters the sign next week on May 20th, and this Gemini season brings with it our first eclipses of 2021. Eclipses are super charged full and new moons, and portals of change where some cycles are completing and others are beginining.
We are already feeling these winds of change beginning to blow.
Before I get into that, however, I want to talk about the Taurus new moon for just a moment.
This is a "stand alone" new moon, meaning it isn't making any aspects to other planets. It is a new moon in Taurus, though, and the thing about Taurus right now is that Uranus is in the middle of a seven year transit of the sign. Uranus brings change and upheaval, but what it is really going for is innovation - reform. Taurus is Venus-ruled earth and is the sign of resources and material possessions - think creature comforts and life's little luxuries. It is life experienced through the five senses, and all resources, from bank accounts to the earth itself and the environment and food supply. As we kick off this week on Monday, we are still in the dark moon, the point in the lunar cycle when we are supported in becoming still and allowing release. The moon will be in Taurus already, so in preparation for Tuesday's new moon, this is a potent time for thinking about what innovation Uranus in Taurus is asking from us now in how we be in the world around Taurus themes, and consciously focus on what we might need to release that is blocking us from stepping into the new in this regard.
On Tuesday with the new moon we begin anchoring in our intentions for the new around this theme. Then in two weeks, with the full moon eclipse in Sagittarius, the eclipse portal opens, and during those two weeks up until the new moon eclipse in Gemini, we will want to be able to root into our foundation of personal truths and beliefs as a foundation for keeping our focus on what we are for as we move through the two week eclipse portal of change.
The north node of the moon is in Gemini right now, and it has been since May 2020. This is the point of increase, the future, and desitny in astrology, and its opposite point, the south node, is the point of the past, karma, and fate. This axis in astrology, simply put, is what we are moving away from and what we are moving towards. The south node is where we have already been, so it's what we already know. We have been there done that, put those particular tools in our tool kit and are moving on. This is what feels comfortable and familiar, but where we can get in trouble if we try to hang out too long in this comfort zone and get stagnant and complacent. The magic lies with the north node, always. This is what we keep moving towards.
This is about to become a focus for us on May 26th when we arrive at the full moon (south node) eclipse in Sagittarius. This opens the two week long eclipse portal of change, which will culminate with the new moon (north node) eclipse in Gemini on June 10th. But wait, there's more. Remember that Mercury retrograde I was just talking about coming up in Gemini? It is intertwined with this eclipse portal, as it begins on May 29th, just after that full moon eclipse in Sagittarius. Mercury is actually cazimi (this is an Arabic term that means "in the heart of the sun" that is used for the point of the retrograde when Mercury is sitting with the sun - this is the "aha moment" of the retrograde - it is described as getting an audience with "the king," or in other words, this is when Mercury, the messenger and ruler of the mind, gets enlightened - it finds the information it turned back in search of) the same day as the new moon eclipse in Gemini.
With the new moon eclipse being a north node eclipse, and the ruler of that eclipse being Mercury, and Mercury being in retrograde, going cazimi with the new moon eclipse in Gemini, this is shaping up to be an extremely powerful eclipse portal. As if that isn't enough, Saturn stations retrograde in fellow air sign, Aquarius, on May 23rd, just three days after sun enters Gemini and three days before the Sagittarius full moon eclipse. While Saturn will be squaring up to Uranus in Taurus on June 14th (and this is THE energetic signature for 2021 with the first one on February 17th and final one December 24th), Saturn in Aquarius is in supportive aspect to everything in Gemini. Retrograde means review, but it is helping us build a better foundation and create a stronger container for holding what we want to create moving forward.
Here's the other thing. Jupiter enters Pisces this week, and this is going to bring good things, because Jupiter is a planet of growth and expansion, and a bringer of gifts - abundance. Jupiter has been traveling with Saturn for the past two years, and in Saturn's signs, so it hasn't been able to do its thing like it normally would. On Thursday evening, it breaks out of Aquarius and into Pisces, the sign it rules in traditional astrology (before Neptune was discovered) along with Sagittarius (the sign of the upcoming full moon eclipse and therefore its ruler). Jupiter only dips into Pisces until the beginning of July, because it will be stationing retrograde soon and then moving back into Aquarius until December, but it will be in Pisces, in a position of power, for this eclipse season, and is the ruler of the full moon eclipse that opens everything up on May 26th.
Let this new moon on Tuesday come and go and give it a little space, allowing things to settle and clarify. Then, access the magic on this Thursday evening for setting new moon intentions with the moon waxing strong in Gemini with Venus, Mercury, and the north node, and Jupiter freshly into Pisces in the late afternoon (MST). Use Monday to align with the Uranus in Taurus waning/dark moon vibe and release what is keeping you from innovating how you do Taurus in your life - focus intent on opening to the new and new possibilities and new ways of doing things. Release the fixed, stubborn, attachment to the past and the way things were or even are now. This will set us up strong for the coming eclipse portal.
Just one more thing...on Saturday (May 15th), Mercury enters the pre-shadow of its retrograde. More on this in the daily notes for Saturday below, but Mercury rules Gemini, and it is known as "the messenger" and ruler of the mind, and also called "the trickster." Mercury rules messages of all kinds and also writing, speaking, teaching, everyday errands, connections and money, and also technology as a means of communication. Make sure all travel plans, contracts, and tech purchases/upgrades are either buttoned up by the end of this week or put on hold until after Mercury stations direct on June 22nd. (Seriously.)

This is the Art of Consciously Creating Life!
The unknown we experience during big transitions is a scary place, but we cannot access our power to create new versions of ourselves or our lives without entering the void, the chaos, and being able to sit with the uncertainty, the unfamiliar, and the unknown.
Sagittarius is a fire sign, but it’s mutable in quality, which means it is highly changeable. We can experience the mutable quality as instability and uncertainty, or harness it as adaptability and versatility. Sagittarius is about the “big truth,” and our personal truth. It is about higher and broader perspective, beliefs, philosophy, faith, and optimism.
Sagittarius is the centaur bounding through the forest. It is the Fool taking the leap of faith holding the belief that it will all work out in the end, venturing boldly into the unknown, unaware that the journey ahead will be one of great transformation - a journey from which she will never return - at least not to the same place in life as the same person she was when she began.
With the coming full moon eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26th, we have a chance to get a view of our bigger picture - of where we are coming from and where we are headed. This full moon is a jumping off point into the two week long eclipse portal that will close with the new moon eclipse in Gemini on June 10th. Eclipses are times of great change, of some cycles coming to completion and others beginning.
Sagittarius is the sign of our personal truths and beliefs. With the May 26th full moon eclipse, our deepest values, truest desires, highest hopes, and most cherished dreams will be illuminated for us, if we are paying attention. If we are, we can anchor into our faith, optimism, and belief in our desired destination and use it as our foundation and “calm in the eye of the storm” as we move through the upcoming eclipse portal to the June 10th new moon eclipse in Gemini - our new beginning and gateway to “the new.”
From Caterpillar to Butterfly - From the Fool to the World....
One of the most important things we can do is to take action. Just begin. Just take a step, any step, forward. We must not allow ourselves to become paralyzed or frozen trying to make the perfect choice or action. Remember, it is easier to adjust our direction when we are moving. Just take a step. We can make corrections as we go, as long as we are going. If we want things to be different, we have to start doing things differently. We start where we are, right here, right now. This is the only way we will ever make a change in our lives. We must, at some point, begin doing things differently.
Remember the Fool taking the leap of faith. What faith, what belief, what truth will this Sagittarian full moon eclipse be revealing to you? Keep in mind also that the May 26th full moon eclipse in Sagittarius is a south node eclipse - that means it is showing us the past and what we are moving away from, but also that which we already know and have already mastered. At this full moon eclipse, our truth will be illuminated, and we will want to hold that truth close. We will want to trust in our own truth and let it be our guide as we set out into the unknown, through the eclipse portal, like the caterpillar who follows the urge to build its cocoon, surrenders to the process of transformation, and then as an emerging butterfly, again follows the instinct to fight its way out of the cocoon it was driven to build in the past but now must break free of to survive.
We want to follow our truth - and be sure it is our truth and not our fear - and just simply do what we feel urged to do next. When we trust and take action based upon our core truth, we can befriend the unknown, knowing we will be guided to the next step when it is time, and navigate any challenges with grace as we surrender (not submit) to the process of transformation. We trust we will know when it is time to cocoon and when it is time to break free.
Eclipses are known for bringing big change to our lives. Don't expect it to be comfortable if your comfort is found only in the familiar.
Whatever faith, belief and/or truth the May 26th full moon in Sagittarius illuminates for us, we must keep it close and trust in our own truth and let it be our guide now. Holding onto that truth and that faith and belief and trust within, we can befriend the unknown and harness the transformative power of the eclipses, surrendering with grace to releasing what no longer serves and the death of our old consciousness - life and self as we have previously known them - so we can emerge born again with wings.
At this eclipse season, we are reminded that in this life, we need both the light and the dark, both summer and winter, both feminine and masculine, both rest and action.
Like the caterpillar who follows its instinct to build the cocoon and surrender to transformation when it is urged to and then likewise fights to break free of that same cocoon when that time comes, there is a season for all things in life and each one, each piece, each stage of birth and death and action and rest and creation and destruction is equally necessary and valuable. But we must take that leap of faith like the Fool, placing our trust in our own truth, finding serenity in surrender as we befriend the unknown, finding our comfort in knowing that our inner voice, like the instinct of the caterpillar, will tell us when the time is right for each step along our journey of transformation.
Only then do we find that security of coming home to that home within ourselves. Only then do we experience the stability and safety found in honoring our truth and surrendering to the journey. Because only then are we able to come into the authority that is our birthright as co-creators of our experience of life with the Universe and claim the thrones of our hearts, and rule with wise sovereignty over our realms.

Astrology for the Week of April 19th, 2021 and Working with the Waxing/First Quarter Moon through Action and Adjustment
The moon is now waxing from the Aries new moon of April 11th, the first new moon of this astrological year, to the full moon in Scorpio coming up on April 26th. (Our next full moon in one month on May 26th will be a full moon eclipse in Sagittarius opening a two week eclipse portal from then until the following new moon, so big change is coming!)
This week we ride the wave of the waxing moon by taking actions that support new moon intentions, and also make any necessary adjustments or course corrections brought to our attention with this week's first quarter square moon.
Early on Tuesday of this week (April 19th) we arrive at the first quarter square moon, the choice point that comes each month between the new moon and full moon. The first quarter square moon has been referred to by astrologer Dane Rudhyar as a "crisis in action." It is a check point of sorts during the waxing moon every month where we come to an internal impass between conscious thought and the subconscious and thus have to work something out to unblock the energy and resume forward motion.
Before we even get to the first quarter square Tuesday morning though, we kick the week off with a big energetic shift on Monday, as both the sun and Mercury shift from Aries to Taurus.
Wherever the sun is is where our conscious focus is. As it shifts signs on Monday, our consciousness shifts from the Aries themes of individuality, new beginnings, fresh starts, and going after what we want, to the stabilizing earth energy of Taurus that supports us in those endeavors and allows us to fully receive and enjoy the rewards of our efforts.
Taurus is Venus-ruled earth, the energy of resources, abundance, and life's little luxuries. As of Monday, we will have four planets in this sign, as the sun and Mercury are joining Venus and Uranus, already in the sign.
Later this week, Venus will be passing by Uranus at 10 degrees Taurus. Expect restlessness and independence to be intensifying up until Venus gets past Uranus - their conjunction is exact on Thursday the 22nd.
Venus is love and money, and Uranus wants innovation and change. The thing to watch for here is stagnation and boredom, or feeling blocked in - that's when the restlessness and impulsiveness can kick in and go sideways, which when paired with Venus can blow budgets and relationships.
Because these two are in Taurus, the sign of resources and stability, this could feel really unsettling and destabilizing to us. (Also note that Uranus' "job" as it transits Taurus for the next several years is to help us innovate in how we feel stable and secure in the world, and this began back around 2018, so this transit of Venus to Uranus is part of that larger cycle.)
In conjunction, Venus and Uranus will be both expressing through the energetic prism of Taurus (they are not challenging each other at an energetic impasse), so think a la innovation in love and money - go for what feels fresh and like there is lots of breathing room and maneuverability, not what feels stuffy and outdated.
Tried-and-true or status quo just out of safety won't do right now.
This is about new ways to get that feeling of security, comfort, pleasure, and even sense of self worth.
The more we come at this with conscious awareness, the more likely it is we can harness this energy and direct it into breakthroughs, revelation, and innovation where they are needed instead of it erupting in shake ups and blow ups "unexpectedly." It's also likely, with such a strong Uranus influence, that we won't be very tolerant over this week/weekend of carrying anyone else in any way, so move into the latter half of this week ready to ride that wave and make the most of it.
Staying conscious of moving towards what feels exciting, innovative, and fresh and moving away from what feels stifling is where the magic is at this week!
On Friday, we have another big energetic shift when Mars moves out of Gemini and into Cancer.
Mars is a personal planet along with Venus and Mercury, but out of the three is the slowest mover, taking about two years on average to complete one cycle around the zodiac, meaning it spends about two months in each sign.
Mars is our motivation and assertion, ruler of Aries, known as "the warrior."
It spent an unprecedented six months in its own sign of Aries over the last half of 2020. In early January it shifted into Taurus, and then has been in Gemini.
While we will regain our sense of focus that may have felt lost while Mars was in Gemini, Mars in Cancer has a different set of issues.
Mars is our passion, motivation, and assertivenss. Cancer is a sign of emotions, whose symbol is the crab. While Cancer is one of the four cardinal signs - the signs that initiate, like Mars' own sign Aries, when our warrior is in Cancer, we, like the crab, won't necessarily want to move directly towards what it is we want. This is awkward for Mars, the warrior who prefers to confront things head on.
Cancer is also the sign that represents where we come from - our lineage and ancestors even. If our intentions and path forward are very different from the values of our lineage, or even if what we are doing is helping break through a barrier the lineage has faced in the past, this might come up strongly while Mars is in Cancer, as Mars is our passion and drive to go after things, and Cancer is the past, lineage, ancestry, and the subconscious. While Mars here may stir these things in us and bring them to the forefront of our lives, Mars is also our warrior, so brings the strength to face these things now as well.
"Once you make a decision, the Universe conspires to make it happen." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Welcome to the first new moon of this astrological year!
Aries is the sign of the initiator, leader, and pioneer.
What are you breathing life into now?
What new campaign are you beginning?
What new frontier are you setting your sights on conquering?
After the new Aries moon on the evening (MST) of Sunday, April 11th, it's best to wait until we can again see a sliver of the moon in the sky before setting intentions, so we have a bit of time over the coming days this week to sense the exact form of what specifically wants to be conjured, to feel into what it is that wants to come through us into being now.
The best time for intention setting will actually be Thursday and Friday, (April 15th/16th) when the moon is in Gemini with Mars, ruler of Aries, and the ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is in Aries, Mars' sign, with the sun, as this is mutual reception and in harmonious aspect since these two signs make a sixty degree sextile to each other.
This week we focus on clarifying, solidifying, and setting our new moon intentions as the moon waxes towards the first quarter square on next Tuesday, April 20th.
Successful intentions are crystal clear intentions. They are intentions infused with our unwavering belief in them, held by our focused vision, fueled by our fortitude, and built from our strength of will. Successful intentions are inspiration that we breathe life into, that we will into reality.
We, as humans, provide the conduit between the possibility, the idea, the imagination, and the 3D world.
We, as humans, have the creative power, the magic, to bring wisps of inspiration out of the ether and into being.
On Wednesday, April 14th, we begin our shift out of Aries season and into Taurus season as Venus becomes the first of "the gang" (Venus, sun, and Mercury) to switch signs.
Right now this is bringing us some stabilization with the additional earth vibes, but by next week it might feel more like stalling out, as sun and Mercury moving into Taurus on Monday the 19th tips the scales all the way to earth.
These planets will be meeting up with Uranus and squaring up to Saturn later in the month, which will amplify the feeling of restlessness and dissatisfaction with the frustration of feeling blocked, slowed, and/or restricted.
For now, we can enlist Venus in Taurus, strong in its own sign, as an earthen container that will help us harness the inspiration of Mercury/sun in Aries and Mars in Gemini. (Venus in Taurus is also great for tuning in to life's little luxuries that we experience via the five senses, and being in celebration and gratitude for what we have, the creature comforts and little things everyday where we find value, love, and joy.)
Later this month, we will be looking to draw on the power of Taurus' endurance as we move through this bit of slower going and work some things out.
(Note: Anything right now that sets off the dynamic between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, as these planets moving through Taurus at the end of the month will be doing, is activating this Saturn-Uranus square that is a main energetic signature of this entire year, with the first one back on 2/17, the second one coming on 6/14, and the final one on 12/24 - we are working something big out over the course of this year, and it will be coming up as sun, Mercury, and Venus move through Taurus in the later part of April.)
At the end of this week, on Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th, prepare for the possibility of Pluto coming through people and situations in your life as sun at 26 degrees Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn on Friday, and then Mercury follows suit on Saturday. This is a general influence for everyone and personal if you happen to have anything around 26 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).
Pluto, as the Roman version of Hades, rules the underworld, the shadowlands - that means it rules both the shadows within us and those of the collective. In Capricorn, Pluto has been showing us, since 2008 (and much more aggressively since 2018) specifically the shadows of big systems, government, politics, and financial systems, and especially in the U.S., as it is coming up soon on its Pluto return.
Pluto is a planet of destruction and creation, of regeneration and rebirth. Pluto represents the kind of processes that transmute energy from one form to another, like composting. As such, it holds tremendous power. As ruler of the underworld and shadowlands, it also rules over the subconscious and deep psyche - things that drive us that we aren't consciously aware of - deep and powerful subterranean things, like beliefs and fears. It also represents obsessions and compulsions.
As sun and Mercury square up to Pluto at the end of this week, watch for Pluto issues coming up, such as power struggles. One way to clue in to realizing Pluto is at work is to notice when we feel a deep pull to engage, to set things straight, to speak our minds, like a gnawing deep in the belly, a hunger with a compulsive edge, like we cannot just drop it, let it be, and just walk away. That's a sure sign it's a Pluto thing. And when it's a Pluto thing, the best thing to do IS to just walk away. Recognize it for what it is - our shadows locking in with another's or multiple others'. It's a no-win situation. Yes, there will be a lesson in there, but engaging with Pluto is learning it the hardest way. (And if we are conscious enough of it to realize it as it is happening and actually disengage and walk away, we can rest assured we are getting on the top side of the dynamic - we are mastering Pluto's lesson.)
As this is sun and Mercury in Aries squaring up to Pluto in Capricorn, it will be echoing the last half of 2020 when Mars in Aries was squaring Pluto with Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn has moved on, and sun and Mercury won't be as intense as Mars - that's why it's only an echo. This is the sun, light of consciousness, and Mercury, ruler of the mind, bumping into Pluto, ruler of the underworld - it is an opportunity to apply what we learned over the last half of 2020. (And Mars in Gemini will also be at odds with Pluto in Capricorn on Saturday, just in case we thought challenges from sun and Mercury weren't enough!)
Remember, Mars is the warrior, full of passion and courage, and we are coming off of a bright new moon in Mars' own sign of Aries that is kicking off this entire new astrological year. Sun and Mercury will still be running on that Aries fire power as the moon waxes this week. They are making squares (challenging aspects) to Pluto, but keep in mind that Pluto is power and squares, while uncomfortable because they require us to stretch and grow to overcome some challenge or impasse, actually are aspects that BUILD.
Now we practice holding focus on the intentions we are setting with the new moon and let them be our guide as we navigate this stretch over Friday and Saturday. We practice staying centered in our intentions, rooted in the strength of our will, and fueled by our fortitude. From this place, unwavering in our belief in our ability to achieve our desired outcome, we navigate the waves and harness the winds and currents to reach our chosen destination. This is just one small part of the journey.
Now we remain fierce in our quest to create our most authentic lives.

And Just Like That, Everything Changes, Everything is New Again - Know to Flow for the Week of March 15th, 2021
This week we are transitioning from Pisces season to Aries season, as the sun enters Aries this Saturday, March 21st.
And just like that, everything changes, everything is new again.
Even though the high country is still getting snow here in southwest Colorado, spring is in the air. Days are consistently warmer, the river is running faster, and I am catching glimpses of green shoots poking up through the snow-patched soil. I always get a certain restlessness this time of year, like suddenly it is time to do everything and I am already behind but I don't know which direction to go first.
Deep breaths. Patience. No need to rush, force, get ahead of ourselves, or stress ourselves out. 2020 was a long year. This spring feels like it holds promise and relief, and it will come in perfect time, just like the buds forming on the trees will burst open in their perfect time, just like they do every year when the conditions are right. All is well.
We are in transition now. We have just reached the Pisces new moon. Even though equinox happens this Saturday when the sun enters Aries, the Aries new moon on April 11th is the one bringing us through that portal.
This week we are waxing to the first quarter moon on Saturday in Cancer.
It's still Pisces season until the sun enters Aries on Saturday. This week will be a time of integrating this new moon and getting our bearings to move forward.
Mercury just catches up to join the sun and Venus in Pisces on Monday, but by the weekend, they are both already off into Aries.
Mercury, now out of its retrograde shadow, is getting back up to normal speed and will make short work of its transit through Pisces, entering Aries on April 3rd, joining up with the sun and Venus still there.
The two weeks from the new moon to the full moon is the waxing moon - this is the half of each month when the energy is increasing and we cultivate and grow - these two weeks are for taking action.
The full moon brings with it illumination - culmination, completion, and/or realization. It is when we get a chance to see more than usual, as the sun, consicous focus, illuminates the maximum surface of the moon, the subconscious.
Then the two weeks from full moon to new moon is the waning moon - the half of each month when the energy is decreasing and we release. After the illumination of the full moon, and holding our intentions, we know now what isn't in alignment and we can now release in order to move forward.
At the next new moon, we set our intentions anew, with the knowledge we now have, and we do so according to the sign that new moon is in as well as the house of our lives it is in. Then we begin the cycle again.
I see the lunar cycle as something we can use to consciously create life just like a hawk rides a thermal up higher and higher in the sky. We make the decision to work with it, set our intentions, and let it carry us up. Then we release and dip down a bit, recommit and get carried up again.
Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, and Aries is the first. Right now we are in the transition of finishing one astrological year and beginning another. And that is pretty magical.
Are you ready to commit to riding that thermal this year and see where it will take you?
Let's make some magic!
