Astrology for the Week of April 19th, 2021 and Working with the Waxing/First Quarter Moon through Action and Adjustment

The moon is now waxing from the Aries new moon of April 11th, the first new moon of this astrological year, to the full moon in Scorpio coming up on April 26th.  (Our next full moon in one month on May 26th will be a full moon eclipse in Sagittarius opening a two week eclipse portal from then until the following new moon, so big change is coming!)

This week we ride the wave of the waxing moon by taking actions that support new moon intentions, and also make any necessary adjustments or course corrections brought to our attention with this week's first quarter square moon.

Early on Tuesday of this week (April 19th) we arrive at the first quarter square moon, the choice point that comes each month between the new moon and full moon.  The first quarter square moon has been referred to by astrologer Dane Rudhyar as a "crisis in action."  It is a check point of sorts during the waxing moon every month where we come to an internal impass between conscious thought and the subconscious and thus have to work something out to unblock the energy and resume forward motion.

Before we even get to the first quarter square Tuesday morning though, we kick the week off with a big energetic shift on Monday, as both the sun and Mercury shift from Aries to Taurus.

Wherever the sun is is where our conscious focus is.  As it shifts signs on Monday, our consciousness shifts from the Aries themes of individuality, new beginnings, fresh starts, and going after what we want, to the stabilizing earth energy of Taurus that supports us in those endeavors and allows us to fully receive and enjoy the rewards of our efforts.

Taurus is Venus-ruled earth, the energy of resources, abundance, and life's little luxuries.  As of Monday, we will have four planets in this sign, as the sun and Mercury are joining Venus and Uranus, already in the sign.

Later this week, Venus will be passing by Uranus at 10 degrees Taurus.  Expect restlessness and independence to be intensifying up until Venus gets past Uranus - their conjunction is exact on Thursday the 22nd.

Venus is love and money, and Uranus wants innovation and change.  The thing to watch for here is stagnation and boredom, or feeling blocked in - that's when the restlessness and impulsiveness can kick in and go sideways, which when paired with Venus can blow budgets and relationships.

Because these two are in Taurus, the sign of resources and stability, this could feel really unsettling and destabilizing to us.  (Also note that Uranus' "job" as it transits Taurus for the next several years is to help us innovate in how we feel stable and secure in the world, and this began back around 2018, so this transit of Venus to Uranus is part of that larger cycle.)

In conjunction, Venus and Uranus will be both expressing through the energetic prism of Taurus (they are not challenging each other at an energetic impasse), so think a la innovation in love and money - go for what feels fresh and like there is lots of breathing room and maneuverability, not what feels stuffy and outdated.

Tried-and-true or status quo just out of safety won't do right now.

This is about new ways to get that feeling of security, comfort, pleasure, and even sense of self worth.

The more we come at this with conscious awareness, the more likely it is we can harness this energy and direct it into breakthroughs, revelation, and innovation where they are needed instead of it erupting in shake ups and blow ups "unexpectedly."  It's also likely, with such a strong Uranus influence, that we won't be very tolerant over this week/weekend of carrying anyone else in any way, so move into the latter half of this week ready to ride that wave and make the most of it.

Staying conscious of moving towards what feels exciting, innovative, and fresh and moving away from what feels stifling is where the magic is at this week!

On Friday, we have another big energetic shift when Mars moves out of Gemini and into Cancer.

Mars is a personal planet along with Venus and Mercury, but out of the three is the slowest mover, taking about two years on average to complete one cycle around the zodiac, meaning it spends about two months in each sign.

Mars is our motivation and assertion, ruler of Aries, known as "the warrior."

It spent an unprecedented six months in its own sign of Aries over the last half of 2020.  In early January it shifted into Taurus, and then has been in Gemini.

While we will regain our sense of focus that may have felt lost while Mars was in Gemini, Mars in Cancer has a different set of issues.

Mars is our passion, motivation, and assertivenss.  Cancer is a sign of emotions, whose symbol is the crab.  While Cancer is one of the four cardinal signs - the signs that initiate, like Mars' own sign Aries, when our warrior is in Cancer, we, like the crab, won't necessarily want to move directly towards what it is we want.  This is awkward for Mars, the warrior who prefers to confront things head on.

Cancer is also the sign that represents where we come from - our lineage and ancestors even.  If our intentions and path forward are very different from the values of our lineage, or even if what we are doing is helping break through a barrier the lineage has faced in the past, this might come up strongly while Mars is in Cancer, as Mars is our passion and drive to go after things, and Cancer is the past, lineage, ancestry, and the subconscious.  While Mars here may stir these things in us and bring them to the forefront of our lives, Mars is also our warrior, so brings the strength to face these things now as well.

Week of 4/11/2021:  Waxing from the New Moon in Aries:  Anchoring & Cultivating New Beginnings

4/9/2021

Welcome to the first new moon of this astrological year!

Aries is the sign of the initiator, leader, and pioneer.

What are you breathing life into now?

What new campaign are you beginning?

What new frontier are you setting your sights on conquering?
After the new Aries moon on the evening (MST) of Sunday, April 11th, it's best to wait until we can again see a sliver of the moon in the sky before setting intentions, so we have a bit of time over the coming days this week to sense the exact form of what specifically wants to be conjured, to feel into what it is that wants to come through us into being now.

The best time for intention setting will actually be Thursday and Friday, (April 15th/16th) when the moon is in Gemini with Mars, ruler of Aries, and the ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is in Aries, Mars' sign, with the sun, as this is mutual reception and in harmonious aspect since these two signs make a sixty degree sextile to each other.
Picture
This week we focus on clarifying, solidifying, and setting our new moon intentions as the moon waxes towards the first quarter square on next Tuesday, April 20th.

Successful intentions are crystal clear intentions.  They are intentions infused with our unwavering belief in them, held by our focused vision, fueled by our fortitude, and built from our strength of will.  Successful intentions are inspiration that we breathe life into, that we will into reality.

We, as humans, provide the conduit between the possibility, the idea, the imagination, and the 3D world.

We, as humans, have the creative power, the magic, to bring wisps of inspiration out of the ether and into being.
.....
On Wednesday, April 14th, we begin our shift out of Aries season and into Taurus season as Venus becomes the first of "the gang" (Venus, sun, and Mercury) to switch signs.

Right now this is bringing us some stabilization with the additional earth vibes, but by next week it might feel more like stalling out, as sun and Mercury moving into Taurus on Monday the 19th tips the scales all the way to earth.

These planets will be meeting up with Uranus and squaring up to Saturn later in the month, which will amplify the feeling of restlessness and dissatisfaction with the frustration of feeling blocked, slowed, and/or restricted.

For now, we can enlist Venus in Taurus, strong in its own sign, as an earthen container that will help us harness the inspiration of Mercury/sun in Aries and Mars in Gemini.  (Venus in Taurus is also great for tuning in to life's little luxuries that we experience via the five senses, and being in celebration and gratitude for what we have, the creature comforts and little things everyday where we find value, love, and joy.)

Later this month, we will be looking to draw on the power of Taurus' endurance as we move through this bit of slower going and work some things out.

(Note: Anything right now that sets off the dynamic between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, as these planets moving through Taurus at the end of the month will be doing, is activating this Saturn-Uranus square that is a main energetic signature of this entire year, with the first one back on 2/17, the second one coming on 6/14, and the final one on 12/24 - we are working something big out over the course of this year, and it will be coming up as sun, Mercury, and Venus move through Taurus in the later part of April.)
.....
At the end of this week, on Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th, prepare for the possibility of Pluto coming through people and situations in your life as sun at 26 degrees Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn on Friday, and then Mercury follows suit on Saturday.  This is a general influence for everyone and personal if you happen to have anything around 26 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

Pluto, as the Roman version of Hades, rules the underworld, the shadowlands - that means it rules both the shadows within us and those of the collective.  In Capricorn, Pluto has been showing us, since 2008 (and much more aggressively since 2018) specifically the shadows of big systems, government, politics, and financial systems, and especially in the U.S., as it is coming up soon on its Pluto return.

Pluto is a planet of destruction and creation, of regeneration and rebirth.  Pluto represents the kind of processes that transmute energy from one form to another, like composting.  As such, it holds tremendous power.  As ruler of the underworld and shadowlands, it also rules over the subconscious and deep psyche - things that drive us that we aren't consciously aware of - deep and powerful subterranean things, like beliefs and fears.  It also represents obsessions and compulsions.

As sun and Mercury square up to Pluto at the end of this week, watch for Pluto issues coming up, such as power struggles.  One way to clue in to realizing Pluto is at work is to notice when we feel a deep pull to engage, to set things straight, to speak our minds, like a gnawing deep in the belly, a hunger with a compulsive edge, like we cannot just drop it, let it be, and just walk away.  That's a sure sign it's a Pluto thing.  And when it's a Pluto thing, the best thing to do IS to just walk away.  Recognize it for what it is - our shadows locking in with another's or multiple others'.  It's a no-win situation.  Yes, there will be a lesson in there, but engaging with Pluto is learning it the hardest way.  (And if we are conscious enough of it to realize it as it is happening and actually disengage and walk away, we can rest assured we are getting on the top side of the dynamic - we are mastering Pluto's lesson.)

As this is sun and Mercury in Aries squaring up to Pluto in Capricorn, it will be echoing the last half of 2020 when Mars in Aries was squaring Pluto with Saturn in Capricorn.  Saturn has moved on, and sun and Mercury won't be as intense as Mars - that's why it's only an echo.  This is the sun, light of consciousness, and Mercury, ruler of the mind, bumping into Pluto, ruler of the underworld -  it is an opportunity to apply what we learned over the last half of 2020.  (And Mars in Gemini will also be at odds with Pluto in Capricorn on Saturday, just in case we thought challenges from sun and Mercury weren't enough!)

Remember, Mars is the warrior, full of passion and courage, and we are coming off of a bright new moon in Mars' own sign of Aries that is kicking off this entire new astrological year.  Sun and Mercury will still be running on that Aries fire power as the moon waxes this week.  They are making squares (challenging aspects) to Pluto, but keep in mind that Pluto is power and squares, while uncomfortable because they require us to stretch and grow to overcome some challenge or impasse, actually are aspects that BUILD.

Now we practice holding focus on the intentions we are setting with the new moon and let them be our guide as we navigate this stretch over Friday and Saturday.  We practice staying centered in our intentions, rooted in the strength of our will, and fueled by our fortitude.  From this place, unwavering in our belief in our ability to achieve our desired outcome, we navigate the waves and harness the winds and currents to reach our chosen destination.  This is just one small part of the journey.

Now we remain fierce in our quest to create our most authentic lives.
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!  Live the life you've imagined."

And Just Like That, Everything Changes, Everything is New Again - Know to Flow for the Week of March 15th, 2021

3/14/2021

This week we are transitioning from Pisces season to Aries season, as the sun enters Aries this Saturday, March 21st.

And just like that, everything changes, everything is new again.

Even though the high country is still getting snow here in southwest Colorado, spring is in the air.  Days are consistently warmer, the river is running faster, and I am catching glimpses of green shoots poking up through the snow-patched soil.  I always get a certain restlessness this time of year, like suddenly it is time to do everything and I am already behind but I don't know which direction to go first.

Deep breaths.  Patience.  No need to rush, force, get ahead of ourselves, or stress ourselves out.  2020 was a long year.  This spring feels like it holds promise and relief, and it will come in perfect time, just like the buds forming on the trees will burst open in their perfect time, just like they do every year when the conditions are right.  All is well.

We are in transition now.  We have just reached the Pisces new moon.  Even though equinox happens this Saturday when the sun enters Aries, the Aries new moon on April 11th is the one bringing us through that portal.

This week we are waxing to the first quarter moon on Saturday in Cancer.

It's still Pisces season until the sun enters Aries on Saturday.  This week will be a time of integrating this new moon and getting our bearings to move forward.

Mercury just catches up to join the sun and Venus in Pisces on Monday, but by the weekend, they are both already off into Aries.

Mercury, now out of its retrograde shadow, is getting back up to normal speed and will make short work of its transit through Pisces, entering Aries on April 3rd, joining up with the sun and Venus still there.

The two weeks from the new moon to the full moon is the waxing moon - this is the half of each month when the energy is increasing and we cultivate and grow - these two weeks are for taking action.

The full moon brings with it illumination - culmination, completion, and/or realization.  It is when we get a chance to see more than usual, as the sun, consicous focus, illuminates the maximum surface of the moon, the subconscious.

Then the two weeks from full moon to new moon is the waning moon - the half of each month when the energy is decreasing and we release.  After the illumination of the full moon, and holding our intentions, we know now what isn't in alignment and we can now release in order to move forward.

At the next new moon, we set our intentions anew, with the knowledge we now have, and we do so according to the sign that new moon is in as well as the house of our lives it is in.  Then we begin the cycle again.

I see the lunar cycle as something we can use to consciously create life just like a hawk rides a thermal up higher and higher in the sky.  We make the decision to work with it, set our intentions, and let it carry us up.  Then we release and dip down a bit, recommit and get carried up again.

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, and Aries is the first.  Right now we are in the transition of finishing one astrological year and beginning another.  And that is pretty magical.

Are you ready to commit to riding that thermal this year and see where it will take you?

Let's make some magic!

Dark Moon & New Moon Magic - Release & New Beginnings:  Astrology for the Week of March 8th and the Pisces New Moon

3/3/2021

Ace of Swords, Reversed, to Ace of Swords, Upright.  (Shadowscapes Tarot)
From indecision and uncertainty and a review of thinking and ideas, to breakthrough, decisiveness, clarity, new inspiration and ideas and a clear path forward.  This week we release any outdated or limiting ideas or beliefs, and whatever is no longer aligned with the present moment and the intended pathway forward.

This week the moon continues to wane towards the new moon, exact in the wee hours of Saturday the 13th.  In the days just preceding the new moon, we move through the deepest and most inward turning point of the lunar cycle known as the dark moon.

This is important, because accessing the magic of the dark moon is the key to accessing the full power of the new moon, and this new moon in Pisces will be sitting with ruler of Pisces, Neptune, and blessed by Venus.  This is a new moon full of inspiration from which we will want to harness every drop of magic!  Fully harnessing this inspirational fresh start means fully diving into the release of this dark moon, and that means being willing to become quiet and still and to rest in our own darkness, in the void, long enough to allow uncomfortable things to come to the surface from deep within...for release.  This is how we clear in preparation for the fresh start the new moon is bringing.  This is how we regenerate.  The stillness can be uncomfortable, but it is pure magic if we can allow it to happen.

Last week may have felt a little foggy, especially in the first half, as we were coming off of the Virgo full moon amped by Uranus.  That full moon was completing a six month cycle that began back on August 18th, 2020, with the Virgo new moon.  That six month cycle encompassed Mars' retrograde in Aries from mid-September to mid-November, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto stationing direct in Capricorn, one set of eclipses, solstice, Saturn and Jupiter both leaving Capricorn and coming together for their big conjunction at zero degrees Aquarius, Mars in Taurus and conjunct Uranus, and all three of the squares between Mars and Saturn, two from Aries and Capricorn and the final from Taurus and Aquarius, respectively.

That's a lot of action for one six month cycle!

A lot has taken place over those last six months.  Full moons are illuminations, culminations, realizations, and/or completions, and this one was in supportive aspect to Uranus.  Uranus brings sudden change and the unexpected, typically through sudden events or insight.  Uranus also brings breakthroughs and liberation, and moves us into the future.

Whatever came up with last weekend's full moon, it most likely took most of last week to process and integrate it, and with this weekend, we arrived at the last quarter square moon, the time where we make a decision on how to move forward, and specifically what we are releasing internally in order to move forward in our intended direction.

This week, we get down to the business of actually releasing with the dark moon.  Also this week, Mercury leaves the shadow of its recent retrograde in Aquarius - things become clearer.  Whatever we were rethinking or reviewing, we are done with that know and moving forward with clarity and certainty.

Another important shift took place last Wednesday evening, (Mountain Standard Time), when Mars left Taurus and entered Gemini, where it will remain for almost two months.

The second half of 2020 was characterized by Mars' unusually long stay (three times the normal transit length of a sign) in Aries, its own sign, from late June through early January 2021.  This included a retrograde and squaring up to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn.  Ouch.  That was a big planetary traffic jam that seemed to go on forever.

Then Saturn moved into Aquarius and Mars moved into Taurus, and the two ran right into another square, just from new signs.  The energy shifted, but the dynamic was the same.

Now that Mars is in Gemini, not only is its pace getting back to "normal," meaning the Mars in our lives (assertion, action, motivation, passion) is starting to feel back to normal too, but now with Saturn still in Aquarius they are going to meet again but in supportive aspect - in a trine from air to air.  This means we are going to feel much more supported with forward motion.

Gemini is about the mind, ideas, information, and dualities.  Mars is our assertion, motivation, sense of self, and passion.  Watch getting overly attached to your opinions and being right.  Gemini is about variety, not necessarily decisions.  It helps us look at problems from every angle.  This could be a great time for opening to new solutions to old problems.

Love & Gratitude,
Kasey

All About Aquarius:  Astrology for the Week of February 1st, 2021

1/30/2021

First, things first, just this weekend, Mercury has stationed retrograde, beginning it's review of the Aquarian degrees it has passed over since January 16th.  It will station direct on February 20th.
Picture

Mercury RX Reminders:
  • Communications will be slowed down now as we go through this time of review with Mercury going back to find something it may have lost or missed along its recent path.
  • Mercury rules the mind and messages.  Aquarius is about reform, innovation, liberation, and the future - Aquarius has a connection with technology so watch out for tech devices getting lost, broken, or somehow malfunctioning.
  • Both Mercury and Aquarius are associated with the element of air which is words, thoughts, ideas, logic, and reason. One of the main signatures of 2021 is the energy of Aquarius.
  • Although we are in Aquarius season now, with sun and Mercury in the sign together and Venus close behind, Saturn and Jupiter both beginning their transits of the sign back on December 21st with a conjunction at zero degrees, and then Saturn making three squares from Aquarius to Uranus in Taurus over the course of this year really imprint this year with Aquarian vibes. Mercury is the mind, and so having its first retrograde of 2021 here is actually helping us get to understand this energy better, and this is a good thing.

Important Mercury RX Dates:
  • Mercury will be cazimi (conjunct the sun, also known as "in the heart of the sun"), on February 8th.  This is the part of the retrograde when our planet is said to be "sitting in the throne room of the king," meaning it is getting a "special audience" with the sun, light of consciousness. This is our "aha moment" of the retrograde.
  • Mercury will square Mars on February 10th, which can bring confrontation, arguments, or words that cut, but at the same time its aligning with the north and south node of the moon (in Gemini and Sagittarius, respectively) so there's an element of fate/destiny and this is supportive.  Just watch the temper while Mars is involved, especially with Mercury in reverse.
  • After that, Mercury retrograde has quite the sweet run up through Valentine's Day, meeting up with Venus (!) on the 13th and then Jupiter on the 14th, the two planets known for bringing blessings.
  • Mercury will station direct on February 20th.

And, that's right, if Mercury retrograde will be making a conjunction with Venus for Valentine's Day, that means Venus must be moving into Aquarius.  This week kicks off with Venus leaving Capricorn and entering Aquarius to join the sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter, on Monday, February 1st, and with the moon in Libra, Venus' sign, that will be giving Monday and Tuesday really strong Venus vibes!  (Details in the daily notes of the Know to Flow weekly forecast - to subscribe click here.)

Venus is one of the two benefics (planets that bring blessings), along with Jupiter.  Wherever Venus goes, pleasure and beauty follow.  (That means whatever house Aquarius rules in your chart is where Venus is going to be bringing her gifts until February 25th when she enters Pisces.)  Venus in astrology represents love and money.  This is the planet of relationship, values, and self-worth.  When Venus is in Aquarius, that means it will be expressing through the energy of that sign.  Aquarius is an air sign, and known for logic, detachment, and it's aversion to the status-quo.  This means we might favor the unusual, eccentric, and weird now over romantic.  Intellectual connections will be the thing now in all of our relationships.  Ideas and innovation rule, and we might need more freedom, spontaneity, and fresh air in all things love and money oriented.

The other thing this week is on Thursday the 4th, when we arrive at the last quarter moon, our halfway point between the full moon and coming new moon, and the second choice point of the lunar cycle known as a "crisis in consciousness."  This is when we decide what ideas and beliefs we won't be carrying forward based on whatever illumination and realization the full moon a week ago has brought.

We will spend the next week releasing and clearing based on this decision as we prepare for the coming new moon.  (And that coming new moon IS the Aquarius new moon, and with this year being a year strong in Aquarius energy, that's a very important one for this year, so the clearing process over this week and next is key.)

Befriending the Unknown in Uncertain Times

1/19/2021

The unknown we experience during big transitions is a scary place, but we cannot access our power to create new in our lives without entering the void, the chaos, and being able to make friends with the dark of the unknown and sit with it.
Think of the caterpillar that builds its cocoon out of instinct, unaware that it will never return to the life it has lived as that particular being, and will remain isolated in the darkness of that cocoon, like a dark grave, until the time is right for it to emerge completely transformed.
Yet before it realizes the magic of being reborn as a butterfly, as it awakens to its strange new identity, it must work to break out of its cocoon.  It does this without any knowledge of necessarily what changes it has experienced or what lies outside of that darkness it has been confined in as it has undergone this amazing transformation - it breaks out of its cocoon simply because it must, and it must indeed work very hard to break from this cocoon, because without this work, it would not get the its blood pumped into these wings so new and strange to it.
Picture
Art by Stephanie Law
Without the willingness to enter into the darkness of the cocoon and face the death of the life it has known, the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly would not be possible.  Without the drive and willingness to work to then break free of the now constraining and no longer useful confines of the once necessary cocoon, the butterfly would not be able to survive in its new form - it would not be able to fly.

PictureThe Fool, Stephanie Law
The Fool in the tarot takes a great leap of faith, holding the belief that it will all work out in the end, venturing boldly into the unknown, unaware that the journey ahead will be one of great transformation - a journey from which he (or she) will never return - at least not as the same person he was when he began.

We must trust in our own truth and let it be our guide as we set out into the unknown, like the caterpillar who follows the urge to build its cocoon surrenders to the process of transformation.

The caterpillar surrenders to the dark, to the unknown. Then, as an emerging butterfly, it again follows the instinct to fight its way out of the cocoon it was originally driven to build.  It needed the cocoon then, but that it is the thing it must now must break free of to survive.

Follow your TRUTH - be sure it is your truth and not someone else's, and not your fear.  Tune in to what you are being internally guided to do next and take a step in that direction.  When you trust and take action based upon that core truth, you can befriend the unknown, knowing you will be guided to the next step when it is time, and navigate any challenges with grace as you surrender (not submit) to the process of transformation.

Trust you will be told when it is time to cocoon and when it is time to break free.

Holding onto that truth and that faith and belief and trust within, befriend the unknown. Surrender with grace to releasing what no longer serves,  to the inevitable death of our present consciousness, so we can emerge born again with wings to a new life.

We are reminded that in this life, we need both light and dark, both summer and winter, both feminine and masculine, both rest and action.

Like the caterpillar who follows its instinct to build the cocoon and surrender to transformation when it is urged to and then likewise fights to break free of that same cocoon when the time comes, there is a season for all things in life and each one, each piece, each stage of birth and death and action and rest and creation and destruction is equally necessary and valuable.

But we must take that leap of faith like the Fool, placing our trust in our own truth, finding serenity in surrender as we befriend the unknown, finding our comfort in knowing that our inner voice, like the instinct of the caterpillar, will tell us when the time is right for each step along our journey of transformation.

Only then do we find that security of coming home to that home within ourselves.  Only then do we experience the stability and safety found in honoring our truth and surrendering to the journey. Because only then are we able to come into the authority that is our birthright as co-creators of our experience of life with the Universe and claim the thrones of our hearts, and rule with wise sovereignty and authenticity over our realms.

The zodiac symbol for Capricorn is actually the goat - the "sea goat," to be exact, but I always think of the white stag with Capricorn because of its association with Solstice, which is actually marked by the sun arriving at zero degrees Capricorn every December.

However, the origins of the stag's association with solstice actually come from the ancient shamanic cultures of the north - where it was actually a reindeer - a female reindeer - while male reindeer lose their antlers for the winter, the females keep theirs.  And there is even more magic associated with the sign of Capricorn.

Capricorn is much more than a mountain-climbing goat in astrology, although taking practically planned strategic action steps IS a part of this energy.  The sea goat is actually the only zodiac symbol that's a mythical creature, and it relates back to the ancient Sumerians and the god Enki, who ruled over fresh water.  Fresh water and irrigation were very important to the Sumerian civilization, set upon the marsh lands of the Fertile Crescent.  Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, was a Roman god of the harvest, which falls in line with this.

While we see the modern expression of Capricorn as a sign ruling over the big systems of society like governments and financial systems, and Saturn as the athority figure and one who rules over time, responsibility, rules, limits, and boundaries, if we dig a little deeper we will find in this sign something much more ancient and magical, having to do with earth magic - the magic at the heart of alchemy - using the elements to create something new here on the earth plane.  This magic has rules, we must follow the laws of nature.  But when we correctly apply the rules to the given materials, and use the proper structure and containers, we can create new magic.

While the sun arriving at zero degrees Capricorn for solstice represents the brand new solar cycle, the Capricorn new moon is when the moon catches up to meet the sun in Capricorn to begin a new lunar cycle.

On the evening of Tuesday, January 12th, we arrive at the Caprcicorn new moon, with Capricorn's ruler having just met up with Jupiter at solstice for the Great Conjunction at zero degrees Aquarius, a brand new 20 year cycle and 200 year cycle, and a big shift from earth to air.  This is the new moon that really gets the new year vibe going.

The planetary set up is completely different from this time last year as we embark on a new era.

So with this Capricorn new moon, what new magic would you like to create?

Love & Gratitude,
Kasey

2020 versus 2021: Why This Year Will Feel Different

1/2/2021

Picture
Art by Stephanie Law
2020 started off with the heavy energetic signature of Saturn and Pluto coming together in Capricorn.  Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008.  Capricorn is the practical, down-to-business earth sign that rules big systems like financial and government.  Pluto is transformation - but through destruction and creation.  First Pluto exposes, strips, shakes the foundations to see what is rotten.  We've been watching it happen.  Saturn came into Capricorn in 2018, and is strong there because it rules that sign.  While Pluto represents power, Saturn represents authority.  Saturn's transits through a sign is like an inspection or audit - Saturn is all about rules, limits, and boundaries.  It also rules karma and when at work in our lives can come through as fear, restriction, limits, isolation, and even illness and depression.  With such a strong influence from Saturn and in challenging aspect, contraction became a main theme of 2020.

However, it is natural law that things must balance, and so it is only natural that after contraction will come expansion, and to an equal degree, and Jupiter is the planet that rules expansion.

Jupiter spent 2020 in Capricorn as well, and typically Jupiter brings blessings, luck, and abundance, but it was severely debilitated all year, as it is weak in Capricorn and also was "under" Saturn because Saturn is strong there and they were traveling together, so Jupiter was not of much help.  On top of all that, the second half of 2020 was dominated by Mars spending an almost unheard of amount of time (six months - three times longer than a normal Mars transti) in its own sign of Aries, and thus challenging Saturn and Pluto.  Mars and Saturn are malefics - planets that bring adversity - and squares are challenging - and they were both going through retrogrades which are slow downs and reviews, so all of this compounded the already difficult energies.

With the retrogrades bringing slow downs and reviews, and the square aspects bringing challenges and obstacles, Saturn bringing restriction, and Pluto bringing transformation, the energetic set up was a pressure cooker - transformation through limitation and restriction, which can feel very much impossible, and at the very least uncomfortable.

Saturn rules time and traditions.  It rules over the structures and routines of our daily lives that hold us and create the containers that allow us to make things happen in the real world.  That can feel supportive, or it can feel restrictive.

Coming out of 2020, we are bound to have a much better understanding of where we need to be responsible in our lives and what traditions or ways of doing things are feeling irrelevant, disconnected, meaningless, and outdated.

2021, in contrast, begins with the main energetic signature of Saturn coming together with Jupiter, the bringer of gifts and blessings, in air sign Aquarius.  This immediately starts out this year on a more positive note, and sets us up with the energy of Aquarius, and more broadly the element of air being the main energetic signature of 2021.  Although Jupiter will still be "under" Saturn in Aquarius, it will be better positioned to bring gifts over 2021, especially as it gets away from Saturn when it spends time in Pisces where it is very strong.  Now we begin to expand again after the deep contraction of 2020.

Tarot for the Week of December 21st and Solstice

12/21/2020

Usually, the weekly card readings are posted on social media (the Facebook page, Facebook group, and on Instagram), in both written and video formats, but this week is a big week energetically, and a longer reading, so I am posting it here to the blog.
This week's cards are:  Page of Cups, reversed, 10 of Swords, reversed, The Magician, reversed, 4 of Swords, reversed, Knight of Wands, Judgement, and The World.  (The deck is Shadowscapes Tarot, art by Stephanie Law.)
This week begins with solstice (the sun at zero degrees Capricorn) on Monday, December 21st, and also Jupiter and Saturn coming together at zero degrees Aquarius for the Great Conjunction.

Solstice marks the beginning of the solar cycle.  It is the shortest day of the year and longest night (here in the northern hemisphere), and the time where we thank the darkness for its gifts, plant our seeds of intention for the coming solar cycle, and welcome the return of the light as the days begin now to get longer until June 21st.

The Great Conjunction is when Jupiter and Saturn come together at the same degree of the zodiac, and occurs about every 19-20 years.  So with this conjunction we are beginning a new 20 year cycle.  But in addition, these two come together for about 200 years at a time in the same element of the zodiac, and this is the beginning of a new 200 year cycle as well, because for the past 200 years they have been coming together in earth signs, and now they are shifting to the coming 200 years of coming together every 20 years in air signs.  This brings a larger "umbrella" energetic shift now from earth (possessions, tangibles, land) to air (ideas, communication, services).
This week's cards are a continuation of the theme of the past few weeks - from the eclipse portal (November 30th to December 14th) onward, the weekly cards have been speaking to stepping out of the old and into the new, and consciously releasing what no longer resonates.

We are, and have been in recent weeks, moving through a series of big energetic shifts that are breaking us out of the holding pattern we have been in for 2020.  The cards this week reflect this.  They speak to where we may be still releasing the past and therefore holding back fully and authentically expressing ourselves, and not moving forward on new ideas just yet, and the discomfort being in that in-between might bring.  And they also speak to being able to move forward swiftly once we are fully connected to our passion and true heart's desire.

The last two cards are especially telling.  The second to the last card, Judgement, tells us of dying to the old consciousness and being reborn to a new, higher consciousness - an awakening or rebirth.  The World, the final card, is the last card of the major arcana, signaling a completion or coming full circle, and also it is a card of Saturn - a card of mastery and stepping into our authority.  These two cards reflect the energy of the Great Conjunction as Saturn and Jupiter, the old god and the young god, the time-tested traditions and new ways, come together in the air sign Aquarius for an innovative new beginning.

Page of Cups, Reversed
Card 1
Page of Cups, Reversed
We may have new ideas and inspiration but not be quite ready to share it with the world yet.  We may be holding back from full authentic self-expression while other parts of ourselves catch up with our minds.  This might bring self-doubt.  Remember to tune into inner wisdom.  There's no need to force - everything is unfolding in divine right timing.

Card 2
10 of Swords, Reversed
The past year has been challenging and we have done a lot of work and faced some hardship and difficulties.  Reversed, this is a card of moving on from challenges, and that means releasing the past so we are truly free to move into the new without bringing the energy of the past with us and recreating it.  Releasing the past is the first step towards a new beginning.

I The Magician, Reversed
Card 3
I, The Magician, Reversed
The Magician is a card of alchemy - of blending all of the elements together to create something altogether new.  With it reversed, we are preparing to manifest, to create the new, but we are not taking action yet.  This goes right along with the first two cards.  The foundation of the magic of manifestation is holding strong, crystal clear vision of our end goal and intention.  Now is the time to hone the vision - then, when the time is right, we take right action.

Card 4
4 of Swords, Reversed
The 4 of Swords reversed reinforces the other cards' messages telling us that it is not time for action just yet (although the Knight of Wands below tells us this is coming soon).  We want to move forward in a balanced and methodically way, and be sure to listen to our body and give it rest and nurturing when it is needed.  Otherwise we burn ourselves out.  Remember to tune in to inner wisdom and that things will unfold in divine right timing - find flow instead of pushing and forcing.  The time a seed spends in the dark below the surface of the soil is equally important to the time it spends in the light actively growing.

Knight of Wands
Card 5
Knight of Wands
Wands representing fire - enthusiasm, ideas, creativity.  Knights represent taking action and pursuing a goal.  After connecting with our heart's most authentic desire and passion, clarifying our vision and intention, planting the seed and nourishing it and ourselves, we take swift and precise action.  When we are aligned with our most authentic self and expression and connected to our inner fire, we have the motivation and stamina to navigate any obstacles we might face along our path.

Card 6
XX, Judgement
Judgement speaks of rebirth and regeneration - dying to the old consciousness to be reborn to the new.  It is a decision.  It is letting go of the old.  It is being aligned with our inner guidance and intuition and acting from our true center and foundation of personal truths, core values, and beliefs.

XXI The World
Card 7
XXI, The World
The World is a sign of completion.  The major arcana begins with card zero, The Fool, and ends with card XXI, The World.  It is "the Fool's journey."  This is attainment of a goal.  It is also a card of Saturn, so speaks of stepping into one's own authority or mastery of something. We are closing one door behind us and preparing to open a new one that marks a brand new beginning.

Solstice and the Great Conjunction, December 21st, 2020

12/20/2020

Picture
Solstice marks the beginning of the winter season and the beginning of the return of the light in the northern hemisphere.

This is one of the four markers of the natural cycle of the solar year - each new season begins when the sun enters one of the four cardinal signs of the zodiac.  Winter begins at winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, when the sun enters Capricorn, spring begins at spring equinox, when day and night are equal length, and the sun enters Aries, summer begins at summer solstice, the longest day of the year, when the sun enters Cancer, and fall begins at fall equinox, when day and night are again equal, and the sun enters Libra.

Cardinal signs begin our seasons and therefore are considered the initiators of the zodiac - cardinal signs start things.

Winter solstice is always a new beginning, as it signals the return of the light.  It is also a time when we honor the darkness and the gifts it brings, as it is the longest night of the year.  It's a good time for taking stock of the past year and setting new intentions for the coming year, and planting the seeds we want to grow with the increasing light in the coming months.

What do you want to see manifest by summer solstice?  What do you want to harvest in the coming year?

What makes this winter solstice even more special is that on the same day, we have the Great Conjunction - Saturn and Jupiter coming together at zero degrees Aquarius.  These two come together at some point of the zodiac about every 19 years, but its been much longer since they have come together in Aquarius.  On top of beginning a new solar year as we welcome the return of the light with solstice, we are beginning two much larger cycles with the Great Conjunction.

In recent months we have been getting a lot of the "business end" of Saturn because of it's positioning in Capricorn with Pluto and how it was in challenging aspect by the movements of other planets.  Now Jupiter and Saturn, who have both been in Capricorn for all of 2020, are moving into Aquarius, together.  As Saturn comes together with Jupiter, we have access to its more supportive attributes.

Saturn is about authority, responsibility, foundation, structure, boundaries, and achievement.  It is really all about support, its just that that can quickly begin to feel like restriction and even oppression when in challenging aspect.  Saturn can represent a wise authority, mentor, or firm ruler.

Jupiter is a benefic - it brings blessings.  It also exaggerates and amplifies whatever it touches.  Jupiter is the planet of wealth and abundance, and also belief and wisdom.

These two are meeting at the gateway degree of Aquarius, the sign of humanitarianism, out-of-the-box thinking, innovation, and the future.  This is a grand new beginning, perfect for setting forward-thinking intentions for the future.  Think wise authority but noncomformist, and think big!

Here's something interesting - there are some that believe that the "Star of Bethlehem" was actually the Great Conjunction of 7 B.C.

Now might just be the perfect time to wish upon a star.

Solstice Blessings,
Kasey
