Releasing Trauma Stored in the Body with Somatics
A big piece of healing and being able to move into a new relationship with
ourselves and life where we are creating more of what we want involves
releasing the energetic imprint of traumatic experiences left in the body.
We can do so much healing work, but if this piece gets left unaddressed,
it will feel like we just can't "get there," like something is still holding us back.
To do this, we need to speak to the body and nervous system directly, in its own language.
We do this using somatic exercises!
Here's a little sampling you can start using today.
The most important part is to do them really slowly, in as much of a
relaxed state as you can manage. (I like to bring my attention inward with my
eyes closed to the point right between my brow bones, and then pretend
my pelvic bone and sacrum are just melting into the floor, and my
entire spine is just melting into the floor, spreading like butter melting. Then I
just keep rotating back and forth through the exercises in no particular
order. When I feel tension start to rise, I focus on even MORE melting, and
when I do that, I usually get a whole body tremor - that's the energy releasing.
Another way releasing occurs is through crying, but I've also experienced
deep anger and rage coming up right before that, so just allow whatever
comes, however it comes for an amazing release. And you can keep doing
it every day as "house keeping.")
If you want to go deeper, I highly recommend the 30 day hip release series
from The Workout Witch.
