Exploring the Gut-Brain Connection -
Happiness is a Healthy System.
Happiness is a Healthy System.
Did you know that trauma causes gut issues?
How about that inflammation is the root of all dis-ease (even mental/emotional), & it starts in our gut?
If you have candida overgrowth, an unbalanced microbiome, parasites, or something like leaky gut, there's a 100% chance it's messing with your mood, mind, and your ability to vibe higher and consciously create more of what you want in life.
And the fact is, many general physicians just aren't going to catch the root issue in a 10 minute visit.
The brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, muscle and joint pain, depression, and anxiety can easily be attributed to so many things, written off as hormonal, or age, or even, "it's all in your head - there's nothing wrong with you according to our blood tests." (What the doctor told me when my body went from a size 6 to a size 12 overnight for seemingly no apparent reason and the blood work came back normal. I had moved into a new place a few months before in the middle of winter, in March we went into pandemic lockdown so I wasn't leaving, and I had had COVID, and the weather was getting warmer. It took me six months to figure out it wasn't me - it was the place - it had high levels of a toxic mold called penicillin brevicompactum. I know because I had it lab tested - after I found it and began mitigating it, it came back orange which is not completely uninhabitable, but close. I didn't know the cause when I went to the doctor, but I knew something was wrong. I knew my body was reacting to something, even though it wasn't something that showed up in bloodwork.)
If you feel like something is off with your system, here are some suggestions:
(Not from a medical professional, but from someone who has been there - these are only suggestions, please consult with a professional
for guidance - your doctor, your naturopath, a functional medicine practitioner - or all three. This sort of thing can get complicated
and many symptoms are not specific to just one thing. And this is your quality of life and your life itself we are talking about,
so seek out as much help and as many opinions and perspectives as you need. Make this a priority.)
1. Educate & eliminate. Start reading up on gut health and changing your diet. You can try adding in probiotics and/or cutting back on sugar and processed foods. After that you might experiment with eliminating common allergy causing foods like dairy and gluten.
2. If you feel like you might have food allergies but aren't up for weeks of eliminating foods and adding them back in, you can have your GP or naturopath or functional medicine practitioner order an IgG blood test that will tell you out of a certain list of top foods that cause allergies to which ones your blood makes antibodies. (After years of "IBS," migraines, and depression, I had one of these done almost 20 years ago, ordered by my naturopath after not getting any real help from doctors - just more meds - and I found out I was allergic to gluten/wheat, yeast, dairy, eggs, nightshades, and black and kidney beans. The difference was my body just kept changing for years in so many good ways, until finally I didn't have to even take the low thyroid meds anymore. No more crazy water retention, no more migraines, no more brain fog/depression. These days, I might decide to have an egg here or there or some potato chips, but I notice the water retention, brain fog, poor sleep, poor mood, and inflamed and achy muscles and joints come back, just like clockwork. Cause and effect. My body is sensitive and it converts over processed and starchy foods to sugar that causes systemic issues. (PS - I'm a trauma survivor and have had gut issues my entire life.)
2. Rule out parasitic infections. (They're more common than you might think.). If you've traveled abroad or have a high probability of being exposed to parasites in contaminate water or produce, consult with your doctor about what to do. (If you suddenly start probiotics and/or eating more garlic/a garlic supplement, clove tea/a clove supplement, or taking an herbal parasite cleanse and notice sudden digestive upset, bloating/swelling, and starting to feel achy/metallic taste in your mouth, you've likely upset/killed something in your system. This is known as "die-off." This is your cue to consult with your physician, a naturopath, or functional medicine practitioner and get next steps.
3. Take back control over candida. If you have chronic yeast/candida issues, also consult with a physician, naturopath, or functional medicine practitioner for a long-term plan, but this is usually a signal from your body that you need a fundamental change in diet/lifestyle, most notably, much less to no sugar/processed foods. The difference in how you feel after making this shift is so worth it.
